    Super cord for a Deuce

I dont have a cargo cover (yet), but on my soft top I replaced the rubber cord with some rope. It is a bit long on one side and I just use a truckers hitch to snug it up, easy and for me - free.

Transfer case won't shift into low

You can diagnose a lot from the top if you take the small 4 bolt cover off the top, be careful the detent spring can go flying. You should be able to see why it wont shift. When you say stuck, does the fork move at all? Some times the detent ball can get stuck and you can't get the fork to...

    Exterior Latex/Acrylic House Paints

I took some pictures of the paint I used on my Deuce. We tried to color match a bracket, but the reader wouldn't work so they picked something by eye. I think it looks pretty good to me.

2011 Graves Mountain Virginia Rally - Labor Day Weekend

Soldier B and I will try any make it with the M35, it wasn't running last year and we were bummed we couldn't attend.

    Transfer Case removal/replacing

I used a timber from the back of the cab through the open windshield. IMHO going across the doors makes getting in and out of the truck difficult and you have more place to wrench from above if you can open the doors. Just make a lifting eye with some angle and bolt to the xfer case top cover...

Where did you get the speedo adapter?

    M35A3 Insurance in VA

I have a commercial policy underwritten by Travelers, I believe I got it from Gulway. It classic car insurance, there are no restrictions on use. I found passing an inspection to be way more difficult than insurance.

To flip or not to flip hubs

I don't know, it's the only one I've ever driven. You dont notice the tire rubbing the drag link when going forward, but its bad in reverse. I have to make a 3pt turn to back into my driveway from a normal residential street if that is any indication. I can make the left hand turn from my...

To flip or not to flip hubs

I like mine unflipped. I have 395's on stock rims, they will hit the j pipe and I managed to rip out most of the louvered covers in the wheel wells. I haven't gotten around to adjusting the bump stop so I also get the tire into the drag link. There is a nasty side slope along the length of my...

My First Deuce Arrived (Long post with Pics)

My shifting strategy as well. I split it in one of three places, depends on how much time I have to get going, if I am on a hill, traffic, etc. I think that shifting from low to high in second (L2-H2-H3) or third (L2-L3-H3...) If you are on a hill, L2-L3-L4-L5-H4-H5 works pretty well. I find the...

    Mandatory Deuce tools

Does the compressor wrench get used much? I've had a deuce for a while and done a lot of maintance, but haven't needed the compressor wrench, what common failure precedes its use? I got a torque multiplier off of ebay that is on the order of 60:1, breaks lug nuts loose with just a 12in wrench -...

Hardtop cab window stuck, seatbelts, and engine not warming up

The center seat is dangerous, getting whacked with the shifter isn't important -- not being impaled by it in an accident is. They do not break away. I run a square of cardboard on my radiator year round. I'm not good at letting the truck warm up, I give it a few and then go. I have the...

Raising rear axle - to shorten turning radius

I was thinking that replacing the front bump stop with an airbag would be the easist. A 9k import winch is ~$350, this could lift the rear axle as well. I could let the winch go slack to allow for normal movement. A limit switch on the cable could limit spoolout when lowering the axle. I have a...

Raising rear axle - to shorten turning radius

I cannot make the turn into my driveway without heming and hawing, and once in the driveway it is a steep uphill turn. The scrubbing tandems are chewing up my asphalt. First thought was to unlock one side of the front tandem axle to eliminate the chewing, but this will get me stuck in the...

    Uses for Deuces

    What can't you do with a M35?

    Hand Crank Deuce

I've started one by jacking up the tandems and making a ramp a few feet long out of the cribbing I had in the back. A field expedient hill for roll starting.

    Grade 8 Bolts

You have to be careful with grade 9 bolts such as L9 or Bowmalloy as there is no standard that all the bolts are required to adhere to as there is with Gr 8. Replacing one grade 9 with a grade 9 from a different manufacture is not recommended. Also the higher the tensile strength the more likely...

    Insurance Tip

I have a commercial policy with Gulfway, I think Travelers actually insures it. It is around $600/yr. I told them I wanted to haul things and drive it as much as I want. The only thing they said I couldn't do was carry people in the back.

    m813 over the road reliability

I dont know about you guys, but in my deuce going 60 mph on 395's wallowing around to follow every rut and crevice in the road, with its inherently shady brakes, no power, funny smells, the noise, the wind, etc. 60 feels like I am flying. I have to say it is a very different experience making...

    Clutch Job Looming

With the trans in gear you have to back drive all of the gears. What gear do you have it in when you try to rotate the output shaft? I would try putting it in 5th and see if you can spin it then if you had it in 1st before. If so you may just have a lot of drag when trying to spin all of the...
