I'll be there Friday evening through Saturday with my M1031. Got the new HMMWV engine in, so it will be a nice road trip. I have a bunch of the electronic components from the original M1031 pto generator setup if anyone is interested.
Just an update on my post rally mishap:
Old 6.2L engine crankshaft broke in two.
Engine block cracked in several locations.
Bit the bullet and got a newer 6.5L out of a HMMWV. Runs great, plenty more power. Time for a cross country trip!
A week prior to going to this rally, I installed a dash camera in my truck. And it just so happened that the engine blew up the first time the camera gets used on the way home from the rally. So it's safe to say that the camera has already paid for itself. Can't wait to get truck back on road...
Yes, NP208 and NP205 are very different. Be glad you have a NP205. If you are missing the original driveshaft, it wouldn't hurt to to change the output shaft out for a fixed yoke setup, much stronger and then you can drive truck without rear driveshaft in.
And if you have a M1031, talk to...
Don't go near that limiter and don't overheat, you'll surely warp your heads. And hey, when life hands you lemons, you get a turbo and make some awesome lemonade!
I had fun regardless of destroying my truck. I had to go back to camp around 15:30 because my trans wasn't shifting properly. Turns out it just has a leaky line and was low. But my lightbar was falling off my roof (I welded brackets to the cab roof and I guess the trails just did it in, starting...
Speaking with colors means difficulty of trails. Trails run easy to hard, green-blue-black-red.
I think communication is key to events like this. It's just silly for everyone not to have communications in their trucks. Even the cheapo handheld cb's would suffice.
