I may not quite get what you're saying or we may not be talking about the same thing. The tag I'm talking about is a little steel plate about 2"x3" and has the trucks registration, and VIN numbers along with two bar codes and the model and NSN numbers I believe. It's unique to the truck which...
Sooo, my M1008 has the serial number tag on the drivers door. It's partially peeling off, about 1/3 of it is no longer stuck to the truck. If I ever sort out my steering issue, I was planning on re-painting the truck this summer. I would like to know if anyone has a good way to remove it...
I've been kind of curious about this myself. I was considering installing a lunchbox locker when I rebuilt the front axle. What Patracy just said is basically what I've been reading about them so far. Patracy is also right when he says a lunchbox is not as strong as a Detroit. That might be...
What I do is get little neodymium rare earth magnet from Lowe's or Walmart. They usually come several to a box for a few bucks. Then, place one next to the drain hole of whatever component, provided it's steel so the magnet sticks to it. Then, when you get under the truck to change the oil...
Someone did a thread or put it in the 'what have you done..' thread here recently on LED brake lights. They did look nice, but expensive if I remember correctly.
Thanks for the tips rtk, if it doesn't downpour tomorrow I'll try to get a buddy and check things out. In another addition, the truck drives fine. I have driven it just putzing around to try to figure this out and have had it to 55 mph, and the only unusual thing about the driving is the poor...
You make a good point M-1028. I'd never paid attention until I hit the tree and started looking for problems. For all I know it's been like that all along and I never knew it. I feel it's important to note the truck is on a 4" lift as well.
I have the Off Road Design brackets to strengthen/triangulate the area where the box is. I failed to mention that while at the junkyard I also got the steering gear and the lower steering shaft from the k20 I found. I disassembled the box, checked the internals and swapped it in today. I also...
So, I did something kinda dumb. I hit a tree offroad in muddy conditions. I had the steering almost all of the the way to the right and I hit the tree with the protruding bit of right front tire at about 10 mph. Only the tire itself hit the tree. All seemed fine until I realized I could not...
Be sure you check all of the rubber lines, there are numerous ones. The shift controller on the left side of the ip may also contribute to shifting issues but I doubt it for your situation. Like Warthog said, check vacuum.
When I mentioned parking brake in my earlier post it got me thinking that the cable does not end at the adjuster by the fuel tank. So, I ran the truck to the shop, conveniently located 200 yards away, and put it on the lift and guess what I saw...the shroud the cable runs through was pulled...
Thanks Chalmers. I had figured it would equally affect both sides if it was a valve issue but wanted another opinion. I've bled the brakes several times so there better not be any air.:-? When I rebuilt the drums I put on new Napa cylinders on and made sure to put the bigger shoe on the...
^Wow, that's no bueno. At least now you have nice new parts to rely on but sheesh that's not a great reason to get them. Good luck with your mods!
My passengers rear brake locks up very quickly when in slick conditions. If the road is wet/it's raining or I'm on mud and I even tap the brakes the rear passenger tire will skid. I've been having this issue since I bought the truck a year ago. It had a leaking rear axle seal so I replaced...
If you're concerned ditch that magnet and get a super strong neodymium magnet from Lowe's or something. A little one will have a ton of pull and will definitely stick to the housing. Or you can JB weld it. Like Bear said, the goo is just metal powder and gummy gear oil. I just stuck mine...
Lookin' good Sam27! I like the petcock idea. That's what's nice about that base, has extra inputs/outputs for extra neat stuff. Also, as stated before, multiple filters will fit on that base. I tried a few of the ones in the shop just to see if they fit. I might run down the numbers of them...
