    Plug came out

They are freeze plugs and are designed to pop out to relieve pressure from frozen coolant. A pain in the arse for sure but much better than a cracked block. They're easy to install as long as you can swing a hammer in the general area. Just put a socket about the size of the plug in it and...

    runaway engine?

The easiest albeit not cheapest is a CO2 fire extinguisher. Keeps powder off of everything and will definitely stop a runaway. I keep one in my M1008 and we keep them in all turbo machines on the farm. About the covering the intake with a board, etc I would be sure the rest of the intake is...

    Run Away

^ Yes CO2 extinguishers are the way to go. They are pretty expensive :???:, but still much less than an engine. Powder doesn't get everywhere and they stop runaway's in their tracks. I have one in my M1008 and we keep one in each turbocharged machine on the farm.

    Belt driven turbo/ supercharger

I have heard better things about SS Diesel Supply. They specialize in the 6.5, but I've asked them some tech questions on the 6.2 before and they're pretty knowledgeable about them as well. I'd shoot them an email and ask if they are aware of any supercharger options and any issues with adding...

    m1008 birthday adventure

Glad everything turned out ok with the truck. It shouldn't be too hard to replace that heater duct. I carry extinguishers in all of my vehicles to prevent fires. My M1008 as well as some turbocharged machines get CO2 extinguishers so powder doesn't get everywhere and to stop runaway diesels.

Pulling my hair out! Please help before it goes to the scrapper.

^ That is correct. The 6.2 diesel uses torque to yield head bolts which must be replaced each time the head is removed.

    Odd Squeaking

I had a strange squeaking noise coming from around the accessory drive on my M1008. It was very prevalent at idle and seemed to disappear with the slightest throttle increase. I couldn't tell if it was engine noise drowning it out or if it actually stopped squeaking. It had be going on for...

What neighbors have to say about my new M1009

    :funny: LOL good stuff!

    M1009 Exhaust

Exhaust I tried straight pipes for a bit on my M1008. They aren't too loud from outside on this truck, but they are oppressively loud in a truck with little noise dampening. The next day after removing the mufflers and installing turndowns I hauled literally an oak tree worth of logs in the...

    1989 suburban 4X4 axles

Axles The axles should have data tags on them which will have the ratio stamped. Or, you can have a Chevrolet dealer run the VIN. A final option would be to take off the diff cover, rotate the diff and count the teeth on the ring and pinion. All of these will work and the third will work even...

    fuel pump replacement

Fuel pump Ok, this will be simple but takes a little 'splainin to tell someone. Since the pushrod has a tendency to fall down and get in the way, there are two ways to go about it. Use grease to stick the pushrod in its hole. I don't like this since the grease gets in the oil and I try not...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

CUCV mods Ok, so this is kind of an old addition. Since the truck is sitting so high off the ground with the lift and all, I wanted a good way to get into the bed without getting a running start and leaping. So, I made this. Using an existing hole and drilling a new one in the bumper, along...

New CUCV owner - Transmission and engine questions

Yeah the remote reservoir should not be a problem as long is it's set up correctly. Your interior is actually in good shape and it looks like someone has redone it. The headlights on this truck are self contained. If you buy two new headlights they come with the bulb, reflector and glass...

New CUCV owner - Transmission and engine questions

That certainly is a CUCV. Whoever made the modifications did pretty a good job. One issue I can see first off is on the air filter cover where the nuts go over the studs, there is a little air space which can allow dirt into the engine. Some washers would fix that quickly. You are right...

    Finally Getting My First M1009.

Nicely Done That's a good deal. Finding a car that runs for $500 can be a challenge, and you found an M1009!

New CUCV owner - Transmission and engine questions

Welcome Welcome to the community of cucv owners. I'm pretty sure your truck is a very modified cucv since it has lines painted across the front hubs. Some pictures of the engine and under side of the truck might help more in identifying what it is and any problems it has. Looks like a pretty...

My CUCV spin on fuel filter mod

I don't want to hijack this thread, but it seems smart to keep similar ideas in the same thread. While I liked pawnshops setup, I thought I could improve a little. I just put on my spin on filter yesterday. This was the second time the stock unit sprang a leak and I was done with it...
