Well, I've been called out to plow for VDOT this evening and a truck of mine (M923A1) has decided she wants to sit this one out.. I've lost every gauge with the exception of the tach and both air gauges. I've also lost the blower motor. I can smack the PCB box (lightly) with a BFH and get them...
A big thanks to everyone for the great ideas and input. Hulk, I believe the override switch that you suggested will be the simplest effective means to achieve my goal without permanently disabling the parking brake alarm. I believe I will install said switch in an "undisclosed location". ;) :driver:
I'm puzzled.. Perhaps someone has some input on this subject. Short history: We spend long hours on standby for snow removal while parked (brake set). I've found that some of my drivers are not applying the parking brake simply because they are tired of the racket. I'd prefer to eliminate the...
Hey Fat Boy - please advise how YOU would post the title to this thread to better keep it concise and to the point and to easily and in a straight forward way point a user (search) towards their intended target.... ( In my humble opinion a serious problem here on Steel Soldiers) ???? I felt as...
A couple good smacks with a 4lb sledge will usually break them loose fairly easily. Hit right on the middle of the drum, maybe top and bottom, left and right (forward and back) sides just for good measure. Usually you can hear them pop loose. (Unless you have a buddy named Mark - in which case...
Csm Davis, I believe that you are absolutely correct. The transfer case grenaded not solely because the transfer case was in low range and the transmission was in reverse. The t/case grenaded because BOTH sides of the center axle had frozen brakes. If only one side was frozen, the opposite wheel...
So, I thought I would share the result of using low range reverse on a 900 series truck, for those of you who are not clear as to exactly why this is a bad idea... :)
I'll give a short background on exactly what caused this catastrophic failure: We use a number of 900 series trucks for snow...
Well, I think the first question that needs an answer is what do you intend to plow with your new truck? By that, I mean would it be for personal use or for business use? All the parts you would need can be easily gotten. Once you decide for certain which route you want to go, I'd be happy to...
Shadow1, I agree w/ sweetk30 on all of his points. while you could do this effectively for quick work (your own long driveway, etc.) it probably would not be best way to go for more intensive/lengthy work. I installed belt driven hydraulic pumps on my trucks (I have 4 - A1's that I contract with...
Don't know why the picture is sideways, but I put these 24V LED's on our 5 tons and have been VERY impressed with them. I was initially concerned about glare off the hood and fenders, but this has proven to not be the case. Got them from Fleetpride. Weren't very cheap, $60-80 each, but worth it...
How is everything Chandler? Didn't get much of a chance to chat with you this past winter.. P.S. - Did you see the snow flurries this afternoon?? I thought about calling Jeff and asking how many trucks they were gonna need.. :)
Thanks for the response diesel guy. So I am clear on what you are saying, this head gasket leak forcing compressed air into cooling system could only occur while engine (compressor) is running, correct? The check valve that I mentioned should prevent any air leakage through head gasket while the...
Post update: I finally found the problem. Turned out to be a bad shutter-stat. I replaced it with a known good one and that took care of my problem. No more cold pressurization. One interesting thing that I found while trying to troubleshoot the compressor - it has an air check valve disallowing...
Jon, it is leaking coolant when cold as in cold cold, as in sitting for a couple days cold. And it's winter, to boot. I can't imagine any substantial daytime heat expansion this time of year, and the system stays pressurized for days and days after its last run. Thank you for the response...
So, I pulled everything apart AGAIN and flipped the seals the correct way. Genuine thanks to those who promptly pointed out my embarassing screw-up. Very fortunate to be able to remove old(new) seals without ruining them. Ended up using the hole in the backing plate (previously the entry point...
Thanks for the responses, apologize for the delay on my end. Very busy with work. Will hopefully have the truck back at my place in the next day or two to try and figure this mystery out once and for all. Alexsha, yes - all my hose clamps, radiator bolts, etc., are tight. Checked, crosschecked...
Thanks for the reply R Racing. My shutter stat is not leaking externally - what are you suggesting I do? Do I need to tear it apart and check o-rings, etc. ? Secondly, do you have any ideas how I should go about troubleshooting the coolant tube to compressor? I'm not sure how to proceed..
