I have been in the process of stripping years of paint off of my truck to repaint it as well. There are about 5 layers of paint:
1) red primer
2) regular olive drab green
3) USMC green
4) lime green
5) there may be another layer of brushed paint here, similar color to outer layer
6) brushed on...
I know that we have the Caiman, but it is built off of the FMTV chassis. It's a really smooth ride, but lacks a little in the performance department. They are designed to withstand a blast or heavy fire and get out of the kill zone, that's it. It's not made to be a rolling fortress.
I thought about putting 1/4" plate on my truck more for looks than functionality, even though it'd probably stop pistol calibers. This has been stuck in my head since getting back from the sandbox and riding in MRAPs. Just something about being in a MV and expecting to be bulletproof now:driver:
I have the illustration and thread about bypassing the FDC, but I couldn't find a good description of what's needed. Can anyone put together a parts list, if anything, is needed? If nothing is needed, I'll get to is ASAP. I know mine is leaking internally because on the oil change, it smelled...
It took us maybe 15 minutes to unload everything from my buddies F250. We went straight off the bedside with it. The slope of the parking lot where the parts truck was at wouldn't have allowed us to do that. A big thanks to JC and Gimpy.
