A welded on nut works too. Just put it over the tap and weld the center to the tap and turn it out. A faster way is to heat the tap with a torch and just blow it out. If you can't find anyone send it to me and I'll get it out for free. just Pm me .
Did you hear any strange engine noise, rattles or bangs? Sometimes the fins break off and enter the intake to the pistons, but not common. The only way to tell is pull the hose off and look at the intake fins.

Liners just don't break you have more problems, Like everyone has said pull the pan. It shouldn't be hard to find the problem with that big chunk . I bet a used engine will be cheaper before your done.
I know of one gentleman who ran 100% new peanut oil in a case tractor and mowed 30 acres a week when it was cheaper at Sams than diesel fuel. As long as it water free and filtered, I would give it a try in the 8.3 above 50 deg, you may have to add some gasoline as a kicker.
Several guys on other forums run 80% wvo and 20% gasoline all the time and even in new Tdi cars. below 0 they run up to 40% gas. I filter mine down to 1 micron gravity feed sock filter. I also mix wvo and wmo and have never seen it turn to glue in over 1500 miles with the same filters.
They come in a sealed foil cover. They last a long time on the truck in the weather, Sunlight is rubbers worst enemy, 10 years is nothing sealed in a box.
Go see your local Propane dealer, I got one for free, they come in several sizes and he had one that fit just like the stock one, the only thing it reads 0-100%. They are used for the 500 and 1000 gal propane tanks and work the same.
