I've seen 923's that were overhauled as late as 11-2010, and still had the mild-steel cab. Stainless would be really heavy, and extraordinarily expensive, even for the Govt.

Are there any tricks to getting the plastic cooling fan off a HMMWV? I see it has an external line to the clutch assy on the nose of the shaft. I can't see inside the radiator shroud enough get a good idea.

Took the Van Truck out finally for a day of fooling around in the desert. The M1078 was delivered in 1998, and I rolled over 1400 miles while out in the desert. It had a bad knock under the cab, it was the intercooler piping hitting the tunnel, easy fix.

That will work fine. Allison no longer publishes Dex III or C-4 in their lube recommendation since they came out with the Expensive synthetic :beer:TES-295 fluid, but the transmissions don't know that.
I believe these units have to be returned. I found out that they sent 2 beaters back in exchange for these 2. I think they wanted slant backs and they only had to ones with ring mounts to offer.
