Thanks, Chuck. That is exactley what happend to me, except it was the front right wheel that locked. I plan on replacing the entire assembly and cleaning out the rest of the wheels while i have it on jacks...if i can ever get these bolts off..
Anyone know of any speacial way to get the mounting bolts off of the caliper...the two big hex-head bolts....lefty loosey, right? I'm 99% sure its just a bad wheel bearing...may as well put new breaks on if i can ever get the old ones off...
Alright, here's an update. I've looked at all the u joints, and none SEEM outwardly broken...would it be obvious?.....I jacked the front end up, and in 2WD the rear tires start to spin when gassed, but front tires do not! This was with the hubs unlocked....is that normal?? I'm currently...
Again, thank all of you for the input! I just limped home this morning and am ready to begin the operation. I do have the CUCV manuals, so I'm not afraid to tackle anything.... I've noticed that it makes a clicking/poping (not quite grinding) noise as i move along. It makes this same noise...
Thanks Airmech, that's a good list. Bobert, good to see someone close by....i may give a shout this weekend if you're free. Randydirt, yes it pulled me right off the road to the RIGHT...i initially thought my right front tire was flat or off the rim it was such pull. How can i check if it's...
When i put the new tires on...last week....the breaks/pads/rotors looked good. Dirty, but had life left. I'm unfamiliar with the caliper piston, but will do some research and check it out. Thanks for the input!
What ever happend most likely occured while hitting some mud holes at 15-20mph....quite a bit of bouncing. Can the stock u joints slip off/break that easily? Nothing looked outwardly bend/broken/hanging, but, like i said; it was dark and on the highway and i really couldn't get that great of a...
I am building my plan of attack as we type. I know i need new ball joints, so it makes sense that the u joints crapped...after reading several threads here regarding u joints, it sounds like it's a common issue....i'm not much of a auto mechanic, but have the army T.O. ...or service manuals for...
Every little bit helps. Yes my hubs are locked, and the tires did skid like the brakes were on....i was able to jack up the driver side and spin the tire, but the passenger side was on too much of a slant and the truck kept slidding.....the one time i was able to balance it up on the jack...
Alright...I just put 33" x 12.5 tires on, and everything has been going great....until tonight. After a little mudding adventure, i was driving down the highway and just about lost control of the truck! The front tires just seazed up and about threw me off the road. Before this happened, I...
I just looked at the vent tube. It looks like it has been cut and a section replaced...I'm at work right now, but will pull it all out and check it when I get home. Thanks for the responses!
I purchased it from a dealer, who purchased it from the local guard base. It is a 1986 M1009. The problem is that the tank fills with foam immediately when I begin to fuel. I keep the nozzle on the lowest setting, but foam still burps out. It's almost as if the tank is not vented...? or...
Not sure if this is nomal, but I have been having a lot of trouble fueling up. I understand that diesel fuel is foamy, but I am spending 15-20 minutes at the pump every time I put gas in it. Is there anything I can do to ease the foam?
Also, I have a slow seeping transmission fluid leak that...
I'm trying to decide on new tires. I have the type picked (Interco SSR TSL's), but I'm not sure about the size....Will 33 x 12.50 be the largest I can go without a lift/trimming? And if so, how much lift/trimming will I need to do if I go 35 x 12.50? Or should I stick with a skinnier tire...
