    Wheel cleaning standards

For a tubeless tire, what are the best ways to clean the rim portion of the wheel(s)? Since the rubber must make an airtight seal against the metal, are there any no-nos when getting rid of old paint an rust in this area? Thanks.

What does CTIS offer that you can't do "by hand"?

Simple question, really, or is CTIS just another result of the "push button/let the computer do the thinking" mentality? A related question, is there a provision to manually air up/down the tires, like in a second valve on each tire?

When do lockers outperform tire chains?

To continue the discussion on differential lockers, under what conditions are lockers better than tire chains? Assuming that the time to install the chains is not part of the formula. I have driven my deuce in snow and mud with chains and would think that they will outperform lockers in many...

Which US MVs have locking diffs?

Locking differentials are such an advantage off-road, why so few US military vehicles feature them is a mystery (to me anyway). Is it an operator problem? How about a list of vehicles with limited slip or locking diffs, please.....

Empty pick-up going East on I-40

My son Adrian will be driving his PU from Ventura CA to VA some time mid June and if anybody needs anything transported let me know. He does have the CJ7 on a trailer also, but should be able to handle reasonable loads. Small contribution in fuel money would be appreciated.

The driver's side door on my 757 has a missing decal, just some residue left and I'm wondering what the size of the "Good driver" decal is, anybody with some dimensions? The area is 3-1/2 x 4 inches (W x H)... Thanks.

    Charging old batteries

Yesterday, I installed the two 6TMF batteries I got from Medlog at Aberdeen. The Chargetek 500 is handling it from now on and after 18 hours it is still in "Bulk charge" mode with measured voltages of 13.08 and 13.24 volts on them. Both batteries were manufactured in 2000 and measured about...

    Maker's logo on MVs

Which MVs have the manufacturer's logo showing on the front of the vehicle, not just on the data plate? Just curious, it seems like the newer trucks come with the name highly visible, Oshkosh, S&S and foreign ones. Were there restrictions in the past?

    Dash makeover ideas, please

Asking the experts here, what is the best method to restore this section of the dash? It's an aluminum sheet apparently originally anodized black except for the lettering and the black is now faded...

    Canvas for the xm757

Since the original vinyl top is almost impossible to find, I'll have a canvas "bikini style" top until I find one. Started working on it a few days ago.... There will be a second piece covering the equipment behind the seats.

    Multifuel exhaust

What is the process here, the visible exhaust is a lot worse from the multifuel when the engine is not driven a lot. Currently, my deuce even idles without any visible exhaust (it has been driven long and hard), while the 757 smokes like the dickens. It has not yet been on the road and seems to...

    Horn button question

This item, 2530-01-136-1098, was sold on ebay a few weeks ago, I saved the picture, which I believe is of the item in question, can someone tell me more about it, is it an upgrade to the original switch assy, is it waterproof and is it a drop-in replacement? I think Saturn also sells them. Thanks,

    Frequent stops and starts

Spoke with the UPS driver some time ago when he had just started driving a new delivery truck. They are required to shut down the engine at every stop to save fuel, but it's hard on the engine and starter, of course, so now the trucks (engines) are equipped with an injector "cleaning" device...

    Oil analysis report

Finally, after more than a year, I sent a sample of the original crankcase oil off for analysis. It is for the xm757 lds-2 engine and the results are "normal". :-)
