How many amps are the CUCV alternators rated for? I was looking at a big inverter to make AC power, but not sure if the alternator could keep up.
Anyone every set up their CUCV to make multi kW of AC power? I'm thinking about emergency power during a blackout like we just had, to run the well...
My CUCV pickup makes very little heat it seems. I paid attention on a 25 minute drive last night and the air coming from the heat ducting was maybe 70 degrees. I'm not sure if something's broken, or if diesels just run this cool.
Wish I had a temp gauge.
Anyone put real gauges in their CUCV? I'd love to have temp, oil pressure, voltage that works, maybe oil temp, RPM. Idiot lights are okay, but you know... I'm wondering what it would take to replace the idiot lights with real information.
Anyone install a winch on a CUCV truck (M1008)? I'd like to, but I'm not sure how to mount it. I saw a picture in Peterson's magazine of a CUCV with some kind of winch mount under the original bumper. That's how I'd like to go, but Warn and Ramsey don't show mount applications that old.
Hey guys. I'm planning to change the gear lube in my rear axle since it looked pretty sludgy when I pulled the axle out. Anyway, can someone confirm that it only takes 2 liters to fill it? Seems kind of low, but that's what the manual says. Also, is there any sort of drain plug anyplace, or...
Anyone trimmed up the M1008 fenders to fit, say, 35" tires? I think you could fit 33-34" with no mods at all with the 1-ton suspension on there.
Also, thinking of off-roading, anyone remove the sway bar? I'm wondering if you could even tell it was gone with the stiff supsension anyway.
Anyone replaced the parking brake cables on an M1008? All mine are basically shot, but I'm having a hard time finding replacements - looking for a lead. The dealer can't tell me what I need unless I tear them off and bring them in for measuring or something. I can do it, but what a...
Has anyone actually jacked up their CUCV with a hi-lift before, like to change a tire? I'm wondering if it works without bending up the bumper or something? Especially on the front, it's hard to tell if the hi-lift could get a good grip on the bumper since it's rounded off.
Thanks.
I'm thinking it might be fun to have the wood side board things for my M1008. Anyone ever build a set? Or is it better to buy a used official set? Seems like shipping would be a killer. I'd be interested in pics or any other information, like what size boards to use, maybe a line drawing...
This is a long shot... I'm replacing the tailgate/bed posts - the ones the tailgate hinges mount to. Thing is, the originals have rotted away so badly that I'm not exactly sure where the hinges need to go on the new posts. The replacement posts I got have some holes, but they don't really line...
Anyone ever have occasion to replace the fuel tank filler hose on an M1008? I cut mine apart while taking down the fuel tank, and the replacement I ordered from LMC doesn't fit. Looks like the original was wider on the filler side than on the tank side, by quite a bit. The LMC one is the same...
I see three fuel lines going to my sending unit. What is the third one? There'd be fuel from the tank, fuel back to the tank, and ?? Maybe vent? But where does the line go, since there's no charcoal cannister or anything like that?
Not urgent, I'm just curious and I haven't taken the time...
Is the jack that goes behind the seat the same as any jack from a 73-87 (or is it 73-91) pickup? If so, are all the jacks the same across 1/2, 3/4, and 1-ton?
I've been beating my head against the wall trying to get my M1008 voltmeter to work. I took it to work and attached it to a power supply and it seemed like it was working, but when I attached it to the truck it didn't. So I took it off and traced all the wires around and stuff... well, turns...
I have a ton of documentation on my M1008, but no operator's manual, unless it's hidden someplace and I haven't found it... I'd like to have a picture of the panel with little arrows pointing at all the indicators. I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to have and whether or not they are...
Does someone have a picture they can put up showing how they securely mounted a normal battery to the M1008 battery trays? I've got the original tie downs, but I can't seem to figure out how to make it work. For one thing, the battery is short relative to the mounting hardware. The studs run...
Here's my beatup old CUCV:
I need to do some "touch up", plus paint the door to match the rest. I don't know for sure if the tan is CARC or just tan over the original green CARC. Is there tan CARC? I checked Rapco and see no CARC substitute in tan. Does this look like mil paint at...
It looks like my volt meter (just purchased the truck) has the wires cut very close to the meter. Can someone tell me what they should be connected to and also the route they take to get there? I'm sure most of the original wiring must be in place somewhere along the line.
