    Hey Banks Turbo owners!

You also have to plug the holes in the intake (under where the air filter went). The Banks kit come with rubber caps that go over the factory nipples, but they are prone to cracking and seeping boost. I removed the steel nipples from my intake and drilled and tapped them for 3/4 NPT pipe plugs.

6.2 with turbo build in progress

Yes the 6.5 IP will add power, but you cannot put a 6.5 turbo IP on there without a turbo because it will add too much fuel aand will result in lots of black smoke, overheating, etc. They will eventually fry the pistons if you continue to run them like that. A diesel running too rich without a...

M1009 as rugged reliable transportation candidate

I totally agree that the 292 is a terrific engine. I ran one for years and years in a '67 1 ton wrecker. The 67 C-30 that I put the turbocharged 6.2 in came with one also. This truck was beat to death by the PO, and the 292 was running strong when I pulled it out, despite it being worn out. I...

6.2 with turbo build in progress

Just changing injectors will yield a very minimum gain. You will see much more difference by advancing the injection 2 or 3 degrees, and turning up the fuel a little (1/16 - 1/8th turn on the fuel screw). Adding headers, free flowing mufflers, and a K&N will help some too, but those mods will...

    M1009 Alternator assistance - tools

Most Advance Auto Parts stores have an electric impact on the store tool cart, and they will usually do it for you.

M1009 as rugged reliable transportation candidate

292's suck on fuel though. I ran them for years, and they are great engines, but they wouldn't do any better than 10 mpg (on the best day, in top shape) in a 4X4 Blazer with 3.73's. I heard an old guy say one time in describing a 292, "They have all the power of a 6 banger, with gas mileage of a...

    M1009 roof Q

I looked all around for some of these, and even ordered some that were wrong. I made some out of Delrin at work. I went out to the M1009, jotted down the dimensions for the grommets and just made some that match them perfectly. All the rubber is painted with CARC on my truck anyway, so I'm just...

    M1009 cost of ownership

Maybe I've been lucky, but I mine has been great. I have been driving 6.2 trucks for years, but this was my first CUCV. I bought mine from Gov Liquidation at Warner Robins AFB for $1305, and all I've done is put batteries in it ($300) and tires. I've put 10,600 miles on it since Jun of last...

    She loves it.

My wife doesn't see the appeal of my trucks, but she loves how the kids react to them, the M1009 in particular. My Z71 is a regular cab, so when I take all the kids out, I take the M1009. I can take 2 of them in other trucks, but when I take the baby, we have go in the '09. My 2 older kids love...

    M1009 Softop

Very nice!! That is a very good looking M1009 you've got there. I love the Desert Storm paint, the top, antennas, and especially the tires and wheels. It is just a very tough looking rig!

thinking about doing black white and grey camo

I can't wait to see it finished. Just a tip: When you get done, if you will take your can and hold it 12 - 14 inches and kinda fog each color you've painted, it will blend out the streaks in the paint. Just try not to start too close to the edge. You can see where the fog is landing, and if...

Wife takes the M1009 for a test drive

My wife's GMC Acadia was in the shop a few months back, and I made her drive mine to grocery store. She said the bag boy came out of the store and looked in the general direction of where she was walking and said "I bet I can guess what you're driving". She said there was a beat up old truck, a...

    M1009 Re-Gearing...

I would do the a turbo swap before I'd change gears. Lower gears are going to hurt top end speed and fuel mileage, but the turtbo will allow it pull better than a N/A 6.2 with 3.73's, and mileage is around the same. You can do a turbo swap using 6.5TD stuff a good bit cheaper than changing...

thinking about doing black white and grey camo

Here's a photoshopped '09 with the old pattern 3 color woodland camo. It looks pretty cool to except for maybe the white wheels. I'm not sure I like those.

Thumping noise in floor when coming to a stop

Mine does it on acceleration, and I have pretty much isolated it to the transfer case linkages. I feel it in 4X4 shifter if I put my hand on when I acelerate from a stop. I don't know exactly what is causing the thumping or what is making contact, but I'm pretty sure that's where its coming from.

    My first heartbreak...

'73 - '80 are the same, and '81 - '87 (up to '91 in Blazers) are the same. GM went with lighter glass in '81 when they changed the frontend and they WILL NOT interchange! Ask me how I know!-lol:wink:
