FMTV Wheels with Goodyear MVT Tires

The valves are expensive and could net you $50.00-$75.00 each to someone that has CTIS on their FMTV or 939A2. The amount of unsprung weight will not affect the handeling much, but good luck balancing the tires with them installed. All I meant was that those valves look to be in good shape and...

FMTV Wheels with Goodyear MVT Tires

Small sidebar info- I would pull the CTIS valves and hoses off those wheels and use the regular metal Schraeder valves, unless you really have the CTIS installed on your axles (obviously it is not in those pics where I can see the hub spigots). Best regards, Bob

updated pics of my hemtt restoration

Yes, the power unit is the same, but there have been a few versions of the rear drive unit. The MK48 was originally known as the Dragon Wagon (NOT the WW2 tank retriever)when first invented by (as I remember) LeTourneau in the 1950's. Oshkosh bought and refined the design (after Allis Chalmers...

That appear to be, actually, an original MK48, as opposed to the LVS, I believe. The MK48 did not have interchangeable bodies on it, where the LVS did (all IIRC). hehehe....could be wrong, been wrong before. Best regards, Bob

The top 2 are MTVR based, not HEMTT. Note the TAC-4 suspension (used under the MTVR) clearly visible under the front end in the top pic. Best regards, Bob

    Twin Turbo Deuce

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Twin Turbo Deuce ROT-Cool the intake charge to ambient temp + 115 degrees F MAX for most power gain per dollar spent on hardware. (ROT=Rule Of Thumb-basic design parameters we used at DDC.) Best regards, Bob

    5-ton 10 x 10 ???

It isn't a big deal to do-look at the info on a MK48 Marine Corps HEMTT. Sometimes known as the "Dragon Wagon" These were articulated HEMTT's. You can also take a look at any articulated tractor (from the original Allis Chalmers 645 and others) for how the driveline was done. It ain't rocket...

    M35A3 pics

The Cat 3116 that was used in the A3 is not cooled very well (the original proposal trucks from BMY did not even have a transmission cooler installed!!) and the turbo would burn up the cartridge bearings in short order after a hot shutdown. SIDEBAR-the trans cooler later retrofitted and then...

    JLTV

You are quite correct on the original application for the NVG241OR-it was the Rubicon Jeep. I also agree the VM2.8 would not have been a good choice. It worked very well in the Egyptian YJ's and USMC XJ's, but the Efss would have been a bit too much, assuming you are pulling a minimum of .7 TE...

FMTV news - DoD, BAE Sign $1.65B Contract for Cargo Trucks

Re: RE: FMTV news - DoD, BAE Sign $1.65B Contract for Cargo Wear and tear on the vehicle is the issue-not fuel consumption. Keep the armor in place and you have less than 1/2 the life expectancy for the vehicle, simply because it wears out due to overstress. You need to understand the FMTV was...

    JLTV

The 3.0L is NOT a VM engine-it is a Mercedes POS (lots of issues of maintainability, cannot be rebuilt, other issues like poor durability). Don't blame Chrysler for the issues with VM-thank Daimler-Detroit Diesel owns VM now. The VM worked out quite well in the EU and military versions of the XJ...

    General GM diesel engine question

Ummm, sorry, DDC never built the 6.2/6.5, although there were some of the guys from DDC (including myself) temporarily assigned to Chevrolet (what later became GM Powertrain) to supervise and design the engine as well as develop it. Powertrain built it until sold off to AMGeneral and the engne...

    General GM diesel engine question

Isuzu had nothing to do with the 6.2/6.5 (although Detroit Diesel loaned several people to Chevrolet for the 6.2/6.5 program). The current Duramax engine is an Isuzu design, built and "dressed" by GM Powertrain Group.

    New CUCV for the Navy?

Looks to me like the latest version of the LSSV/EMP in DHS guise. The backround looks somewhat familiar, but I cannot place it.

    International 4700/4900 series????

There is a reason the IH S-line trucks and it's later derivitives do not come 4x4 (until the current generation, as a matter of fact). 3 basic companies (Tulsa Trucks, Special Trucks, Inc., and IH/TSPC) were the companies that converted 4x2 IH's to the "factory" 4x4 conversions. When I started...
