Sounds like a great idea. I'll give it a shot once I finish up this home surgery I've been working on. I've been reading how to do it on an internet forum. So far so good!
Great idea. Searching through the TM's as PDF on a laptop is a great example of why paper books should continue to be printed. Can you imagine if Chiltons started releasing their manuals on a Kindle or iPad? Being able to turn a page is a valuable asset while turning wrenches.

Cool, thanks! My brother has a 92 full size blazer like the one in your pic. I've always liked those trucks. I did not know they were used as CUCV II's though.
I had an interesting experience the other day. I started up my M1009 and left the driveway. I drove about a quarter of a mile before coming to the first stoplight, giving me enough time and distance to get up to the 35mph posted speed limit. Normally, unless a school zone is in effect, this...
I know the late 60's early 70's blazers had full removeable tops. I read that they changed this design during the seventies to the half fiberglass/ steel top for more stability and protection in a rollover situation. From what I have learned from this post, once the half fiberglass top was...
I was just searching through the LMC catalog and noticed that all the bed/ body parts (except grille, headlights, dash etc.) went unchanged from 73-91. I knew they were similar, but was concerned about little differences that would make an 88 top incompatible. Thanks or the help and affirmation.
Thanks for the reply, but this confuses me. If the interchange is 81-87, then where does the 88 fit in? The body styles look so similar I'm almost positive it would fit. I just don't want to drive out there if the top is incompatible.
I found an '88 Blazer top for sale close by with sliding tinted windows. It also has interior lights. I can get it for cheap, but am not sure if it will fit an 84 1009. I know there were a lot of changes done to the Blazers and trucks in 1988 compared to the 87 model, but I haven't been able to...
@SpecWarSquid I also have a pair of 3/4 ton axles that came from a '79 K20. I've been wondering what compatibility issues I might run into, namely brake lines. I still have several parts to collect before I swap them under my 1009, and won't likely be getting around to it until a few months from...
I went to pull-a-part today and grabbed a few parts from a civilian Blazer as well as a couple C/K trucks. One of my finds was a horn. I had noticed that the volume of my horn was inaudible at highway speed and wanted to replace it. The blazer that I pulled from had two horns on it, one on the...
Did you go to the pull a part/ pull n save off Centennial/ Briley? I saw they had an old K5 but haven't had the chance to make it over there yet. If you are interested, I have a very good condition original passenger seat and back seat.
I don't feel that anyone here has been treating me unfairly. I posted about an occurrence on the road that I'm sure many others have dealt with before. It wasn't a big deal, it was just kind of cool to me. I did nothing illegal and did not interfere with the operations of active military...
That must have been the same one, MDSA. I was traveling on I40 west bound from Mt Juliet, TN, to my home, just outside of downtown Nashville. I ran into them around the airport in the early afternoon, I don't recall the time. It was very interesting to me to see the many different variations...
Thanks. I certainly did not mean to stir anything up by telling you guys about this. Living 45 miles from an army base awards me the opportunity to see military vehicles quite often. There are always tractor trailers carrying MV's of all sorts on the highways. I get to see badass helicopters...
There was really not much I could do about it. I was already in the right hand lane, which is exit only, and the convoy merged around me. I had no choice but to be stuck with them for the exit lane, exit ramp, on ramp, and right lane of the next road until I got up to speed to pass.
I was on my way home from work this past sunday afternoon, driving my m1009, and happened upon a military convoy. I assume it was headed to Ft Campbell. There were about 20 or so humvees, some with trailers, a fuel truck, and a couple of larger six wheel trucks. I'm not very good at naming those...
Hasdrubal, you were correct sir. There was some buildup on the latch. I cleaned it off, greased it, manually tripped it several times to work the gooey stuff down in there, and voila! the hood release lever works like a charm. I thought I would have to mess with the cable!
1ton, connections...

Thanks, JW. I'll check it out. I know the guys at O'Reilly pretty well.
Ok, now that the pictures are out of the way, I have driven this truck a few hundred miles over the last week. I'm noting all the odd noises and quirks that need to be sorted out. I guess if you...
Parts truck. Check out that overhead light! This was once a Sheriff's Office truck somewhere in GA. I'm assuming the light was a law enforcement upgrade.
The big metal switch next to the ashtray is connected to a large solenoid behind the dash. I believe it is part of the unfinished GP...
