A very brief update: Had a wet tank leak which I remedied and wanted to validate, so I used the truck for some errands today. If I had never had the reduction hubs, I would never even think about them. The rig feels normal... I think my trans is still re-learning shift points but I still see...
A simple check valve replacement cured a nagging air leak. A new valve KN23010 (thanks to the spreadsheet!) behind the front bumper keeps my wet tank pressure rock steady at 123 psi and stopped the way-too-frequent cycling of the compressor/dryer.
On the subject of gearing, I just used it to...
How do you check the gear oil level in the axles? I put "some" back in after the hub delete but want to make sure I have "enough" in there. Should it be level with the fill plug? A certain distance below?
Can anyone point me to the correct TM passage?
Specifically for a 2000 M1088A1...
I have a 1088 with 3.07's and lockers in both rear axles. Truck runs great.
Does it affect the hub normal operation? Yes- this kit completely removes the hub reduction gears. Mine are in a box in the shop. They no longer operate...
We have 3 trucks with them installed in the Portland area...
Rick is close on the truck specs- 2000 M1088 with 3126 and 330 horse tune, with a current weight of ~24k.
He is spot on with the results though, it felt exactly as I thought/expected it would- which is to say not really different performance, just a different engine note. I am extremely happy...
There is now at least one truck with 3.07 gears and the Eco hubs. Rick came over last yesterday and we spent a LONG quality day together doing a CTIS service in addition to the hub swap. MASSIVE(!!!!) thanks to him for his assistance!
The verdict? I have only driven about 7 miles with it...
Hubs showed up today:
Thanks Mike, that was FAST!!!
I will be refreshing all the CTIS seals as part of the swap and am now just waiting on sourcing a complete set (still need the spacers). Definitely looking forward to getting these in though!
It's been a productive couple of days. I now have 4 panels on the roof, including two which tilt- extended:
Retracted:
Video of retraction (recommend watching at 2x if you watch it at all):
Was run off the visible power supply, so everything still needs to be wired in, but this was a...
I had forgotten how much fun it is to break down and reassemble the tires.
Not really....
The past two weeks was a great trip down memory lane. I went 5 for 5 pretty uneventfully with only one or two do-overs. Number 6 took me 3 days and about 6 tries to get it remounted without issues...
I know it's won't be apples to apples but I went for a ride in a 1079 equipped the new Eco hubs (spider gear delete kit). I think this is a game changer. I am willing to roll the dice and see how they do when pushing my 3.07's instead of the stock 3.9's. It may be a bridge too far, but for...
Making progress on a few fronts. Assembled the two tilting pedestals, recording this fascinating video for you. Do yourself a favor, watch it at 2x speed:
Also now trying out tire balance beads, but don't want to see them potentially sucked up the CTIS line. So I installed sintered brass...
Looking at the components, what is there to break? What spares would you be interested in acquiring/carrying with you? These things look like armor plating...
Asking because I am genuinely curious.
This question might get more traction in the LMTV sub-forum (not the camper conversion sub-forum). Maybe post it there too, or ask a moderator to move it for you?

Can't say I did. Will take a look and modify as needed. Thx for the heads up.
In an ideal world, yes. In reality, the direction you point has everything to do with your actual location- latitude, topography, foliage, time of year etc... anything else which may impact the sunlight's ability...
