I took some scrap to the yard today and got the weight of my truck. 18,120lb with cargo cover, spare, half a tank of fuel, spare set of cargo cover frames/bows, and spare set of folding sides. I thought it would be closer to 16,000lbs.
Along those lines, I need to move an 8-9000lb lathe a...
I had a chance to lift the cab yesterday and the 24v alternator light was flashing orange. It measured 24.7 volts. While driving around it bumped up to 26v on the gauge but just briefly. Is there any way to adjust this? Is it typically a regulator issue? I'm going to clean all the connections...
It's not that it shifts hard, it just doesn't want to shift unless I floor the pedal. Once it warms up it's fine. I have a thread about it here... http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?143883-delayed-shifting-issue
I still need to check the electrical system to make sure that's not...
So I've had mine for about 5 or 6 weeks now and so far so good. I've taken it out only once per week to go to the local car cruise with my kids but I'm getting ready to move my machine shop so it'll start seeing heavy use for that. I'm glad you guys mentioned the transmission fluid because my...
Nice tint job. Mine came with tint and it does a pretty decent job of keeping the temps down. The "unibrow" made a nice background for some vinyl, too.
When I had my door apart to get keys made for the cylinder, the little plastic clips that hold the rods in place broke during disassembly. That might be what happened to yours. If the rods fall out then no amount of effort on the handle is going to open it. I ended up wrapping some metal wire...
Speedo is good. Not sure if it's accurate but it's smooth. I'll verify with a GPS. The only gage that's reading off is voltage is showing 24v (in the yellow). I need to put a volt meter on the alternator to see if the gage is accurate.
I don't think it's a "learning" issue because if I let it really warm up before taking off then it's ok. I see you're in Medina; I'm just up the street in Brunswick! Do you hit any of they local cruise ins? I've been to the one at Laurel and 42 the last few Saturdays and the truck is a big hit.
I have this problem in my '94 M1078 where it doesn't want to shift right away, particularly when it's cold. You really have to get into the throttle to get it to go to the next gear. Once it warms up it's fine. Is there an adjustment for this?
I thought of the jump seat, but I tried shoving one of the booster seats in sideways behind the driver's seat and it won't fit. It might work on the passenger side if I put that seat on rails and move it forward. Might have to drop by the pull-a-part and see what might work.
I'm new to these trucks so I'm not sure how much help I can offer, but I would maybe try to remove the breakers for as many devices as possible and see if the high draw goes away with one of them. If you power the truck on but don't start it, do you see the same high current flow from the batteries?
I called Columbus and they said anything over a 1 ton has to have truck plates and registration cost is based on GVW. I guess I can try to get collector plates but I plan to use this semi-regularly and don't want to worry about those restrictions.
The truck is a '94 so not old enough for historical. I'll see if I can get a hold of someone in Columbus that can get me a definitive answer. I want to save money on registration but also don't want to get in a situation where I get non comm plates and then get hassled by truck police. The guy I...
I just bought an M1078 and when I went to get plates they said I had to get truck plates because it's over 10,000lbs. So my plates cost around three times that of regular car plates since they go by GVW. It's a personal vehicle, but I'll occasionally drive it for work and haul stuff that's too...
