Oh,yeah, about the original question. Common sense says if the empty weight is heavier, than the fuel economy should be nominally lower. The mechanicals are essentially the same, so heavier weight, lower fuel economy. But, it is a small difference in weight, it probably won't make all that much...
Well, yeah i see your point. The flat green paint does not make them "super trucks" But, all the same, they probably did get every heavy duty part or option the general had up his sleeve in 1984. And "heavy duty" will help any vehicle absorb abuse, to a point. Just because that "1/2 ton rated"...
And it wouldn't have had a rear cover, would it? You are almost certainly correct, it has been at least 20 years since i saw that truck. I put a dump bed on it while i owned it, even with all of that weight, the granny gear 4-spd, the absurd gears in the axle, and the mystery modified 350...
Uh, the 1/2, 3/4, or 1-ton ratings haven't seemed to have any real connection to reality for quite some time. I had both a 72 and a 73 "one-ton" rated Chevy or GMC at one point. Both were dual rear wheels, both had a 60" CA wheelbase and both were rated by GM and licensed by the penna. DOT at...
Another good reason to hang out here! Even a bonehead like me can look smart by association. Sort of like a contact high. Keep up the good work men, i'll be back to check on progresss later.
S.W.A.G. here, but maybe it is based on how many times someone punches up the photos? I know i find myself looking at the crappiest looking lots out of sheer (morbid?) curiosity. Hate to think my facination with residue junk is swaying some computer's idea of "What's HOT and What's NOT".
Well, before you panic, decide what fluid is leaking. If it is under the brake pedal in the cab of the truck it might not be brake fluid. It probably isn't. There is a long path to travel from the nearest brake fluid source on the master cylinder to the cab floor beneath the brake pedal. Most...
RE: Re: RE: rebuilding a 6.2 for performance...
So how easily would the hmmwv headers fit an m-1009? I seem to recall that the exit flange is angled back from the head as opposed to straight down on the iron manifolds. There isn't a whole lot of extra space between the back of the engine and...
Wait just a minute! "They" make headers for these things? See Westech's post above. Who? What? Where? When? How? I must know a source. It would solve a problem i have dreaded tackling since i bought the thing. That is: replacing the donut gaskets between the manifolds and the exhaust pipes. The...
You may also find that the oil cooler ports on the 6.5 are half-inch NPT threads and the 6.2 are three-eighths inch NPT. Just need to bush them down to re-use the hoses.
RE: stuff
Two of them? Are you a Mormon? Or maybe a slow learner? Or, like me, just an eternal optimist who firmly believes in the "institutions"? I think i'm ready for the institution right now. Padded walls, free food, no utility bills, no telephones, no sharp tools.....
My kids call our m-1009; "William". Why? I don't know.Third base! But that's been it's name since the night i drove it home. I keep thinking Gen.Patton had a dog named "Willie", so maybe there is some precedent.
RE: Re: RE: M1009 Key same as M1031?
NOOOOO!!!!!! Not that! Don't remove the ranks! I've got nothing else in my life to entertain myself. Please! Not the ranks!
RE: tire pressure
My 1009 has TP-50 stencilled over each tire. I've been running 50psi since i bought it in DEC. 2006. After reading this thread i dropped the pressure to 40psi. WOW! What a difference! The highway ride at 60mph was very noticeably less "harsh". Greatly reduced bounce on the...
I did that back in feb. '05 when we moved. Said "i'll get this stuff put away this summer!" Well, it is FOUR summers later and most (almost all) of the boxes are still sealed. BEWARE! you have been duly warned.
Keep in mind, if you go the Coleman's route, you get a complete axle assembly. Mine had brake drums on the rear axle and rotors and calipers on the front. Understand though, i am the laziest human being breathing, i didn't take them out of the crates to really look at them and make sure all of...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Radiator?
My local NAPA guy quoted me $450 or so for a four row brass and copper for my M-1009. It had both oil coolers. I fixed the old one and used an independent oil cooler from Earl's for the engine oil. About 10"X8"X2", with #10 inlet and outlet, and #10 hose between...
