Question about Removing CTIS valves and balancing weights from tires

If it helps any..... The M936A2 I bought had the wheel weights in the wrong spot. One stud off. I didn't know this until I refit all the valves to the latest style. By that time I'd bought the truck and driven it 2500 miles home across 8 states. The difference? Mild shakes up around 58-60mph on...

    M936 hydraulic filter question

Yeah well those days are gone. I called around locally, got on the web, looked around quite a bit. I think I'm loking at just under $500 a drum. So that's a grand to change it. Kinda hoping that's what it is and not at the same time.... project is taking big bites. Blackstone is sending me some...

    M936 hydraulic filter question

Haha thanks Wes. Actually I've been tempted to just get a hudson sprayer with WD-40 and just slather the thing...... So the charcoal color to the hydraulic fluid and the viscosity seemed a bit thick. You think it's possible those kids at RSMS stuck 10-40 in there years ago? Previous owner never...

    M936 hydraulic filter question

OK well had some more time today to play. Got stuff done found stuff out. Here's what I found: 1) After settling overnight I pulled about 3 gallons of oil out of the tank into a bucket. It's a caramel color so there's stuff in it. No water though. I let that settle in the bucket for a few hours...

    M936 hydraulic filter question

Thanks yes I agree. I ordered another filter because it was cheap enough to have a spare to swap. Also jaydog indicated his auto shutoff leaked by a bit so having one right there seems the ticket. I'll change it later this month when I get it. Meanwhile I'm going to let the tank settle and do a...

    M936 hydraulic filter question

How's it going with the crane movement? Asking because I'm having issues on mine. Picked up my M936A2 in November and have been chipping away at it. I think it's exactly the way it came from RSMS MS and the more I work on it the less I think they may have tested before shipping..... For example...

Torque value for M939A2 combat wheel studs?

Pretty sure the torque is accounted for with locking style nuts. I know this mainly from wrenching on racebikes where the rear sprockets use the same style. It's a critical component on the racetrack we paid attention. This being my first Green Machine I'm noticing a lot more NF (national fine)...

Torque value for M939A2 combat wheel studs?

Just finished the refit of CTIS QRV's on a 1991 BMY M936A2 this morning. I had to move the wheel weights up front around. 210-240 ft-lbs is what is spec'd in the TM's as well as the retrofit instructions supplied with the kits (for the split rim bolts; lugs are 450-500). This for stock A2 setup...

    71DeuceAK's M929A2

If your A2 is like mine then the hazards are activated by first switching to right indicator then pressing down on the green tab on the top and moving the lever further right. I drove my M936A2 2500 miles home and got pretty used to doing this. Somewhere on here there's a really good thread on...

    CTIS Troubleshooting Question

Thanks yes I've setup a separate regulator off my shop air and string 125psi air over. Added an additional inline moisture separator as well. My compressor is in a location that can barely be heard where I work on my rig. Whatever the leak is it's pretty big. As the truck airs up my 5hp Quincy...

    CTIS Troubleshooting Question

So I'm after my M936A2 CTIS system. Trying to get it operational. It fails and flattens the tires. I have a major leak or error someplace. The control solenoids are good, I've refitted the updated transducer, works as it should. Now I'm updating all the wheel QRV's and lines to the new style. As...

    CTIS Troubles

Well I have some similar issues I'm working through and am making some progress. Here's the advice I have to start: -Get a shop air supply rigged up. You'll never be able to hear what's going on with the motor running. My shop I have plumbed at 80psi so I cut in another regulator I run at 125psi...

CA register a Humvee Street Legal in California

You can appeal this stuff. Maybe you have a chance for older, out of current use and mint condition MV's for historic plates (like my wrecker). They haven't given a good reason to deny you historic if it meets all the requirements. If you have a HMMWV you are screwed. The problem with historic...

CA register a Humvee Street Legal in California

It's bad. So bad I have to get permission from the state DMV before CHP will inspect my 1986 M936A2. I want historic plates. It has historic plates in Michigan mhere I bought it. They don't care. Insist it's commercial. So I'm writing a letter to the DMV in Sacramento..... Here's what they are...

    M936 Wrecker Hydraulic Hoist Motor

Hey thanks for posting those drawings! I'm not a hydraulic design guy so I have no idea why one seal area is vented and the other isn't but it's good to see confirmation and instruction we are doing the right thing by running a vent/drain per instructions. Does the other motor you have need a...

    M936 Wrecker Hydraulic Hoist Motor

THAT truck is totally different! Catwalk is cool but I think I'm leaving mine stock. It's historical after all..... Note the completely different hoist motor. Would it lift the same weight without gear reduction? Also note the drain line from the seal area on the top.

    M936 Wrecker Hydraulic Hoist Motor

That's complicated. Depending on the load it may weep a little and may weep out a lot. Right? Personally I want the deck to stay clean because I rarely have a helper and don't want to slip on the deck running across it. In my experiment I ran about 6 feet of 1/4" tube back to the tank fill hole...

    M936 Wrecker Hydraulic Hoist Motor

It's the design. All seals leak. Even mechanical fluid seals on water pumps and whatnot use the fluid as a lubricant and the tiny amout that gets by evaporates. Hydraulic rams, motorcycle forks, power steering rams, screw pumps, etc, etc... They all leak. If they didn't they wouldn't lubricate...

    M936 Wrecker Hydraulic Hoist Motor

Yes. All the TM's have is a single part for the whole motor. I'm starting a whole file for all the stuff needed for this truck and would love to have it handy. Better yet I would love to see it with the rest of the M939 TM's so everybody can get to it.

    Bringing My MV Home

Yep. Not only that but Tom is a class act and a great guy. He really went the extra mile. Picked me up at the hotel, stocked me with spares he could part with, went for a drive down to Harbor Freight with me to make sure I was good with the truck. He's super happy the wrecker went to somebody...
