If the fluid is dark and burnt smelling it means the transmission has been over heated and worked hard.
Clutch material wears and is suspended in the fluid. As seals age and start to seep, this clutch material starts to pack into the sealing area and "plugs" the leak thus keeping the trans...
Casey and I spent the weekend completing the 6" lift to the front of the truck.
We then worked on mounting a winch. I saw another SS member who inset his winch into the brush guard and loved the idea. Since we are planning on wheeling this truck, the approach angle is an issue and this...
Check with Barman. I sold him all the pulley's, belt tensioner, mounting brackets and harmonic balancer from a 6.5 that had the serpentine belt system.
First, I would like to ask one of the moderators to move this thread to the CUCV Modified folder.
The son and I have been busy on the truck. He and the grandson "repainted" it this weekend... Well, they had fun!
We pulled the injection pump (bad) and put one on it I thought was still good. Key...
Put a DVOM meter on it and get a digital reading of what is really going on first.
Those meters are good for general condition but are not precise reading.
When we settled on a price, the PO asked if he could keep the aluminum wheels. With him being a fellow Fireman and my intention of flipping or parting the truck, I was OK with him putting steel wheels back on it.
When I started working on over the road trucks, we had several customers that had 5 - 4 set ups. 5 spd main box with a 4 spd aux box. Made for interesting shifting trying to control both shifters during 1 clutch push... I never got the hang of it but was amazed watching the old timers drive the...
Well, I was just scanning the classifieds and found a CUCV that was for sale and I have been looking for axles for my son's Blazer so, I sent a PM and we worked out the details. Scheduling delayed recovery for 2 weeks but yesterday morning, Casey and I headed out to see what I had bought.

Paying $1 per gallon is WAY to HIGH!
Check with used oil companies and see what the market rate is. It fluctuates just like crude.
Best I was ever paid was $0.72 per gallon and that was if I had a min of 500 gal.
My BAD, I didn't pay attention to the date on the thread.....
So, I come home and read SS. I see all the progress going on with others trucks and I thinks to myself, The only reason their trucks are progressing and mine is still in neutral is me! So I spent the last 2 nights in the shop. Even though I am still waiting on the machine shop for engine...
Heavy truck cab jack pump would make a great power source for the lift. Might need to mount a battery to the trailer as the amp draw is higher than a trailer plug could handle.
You asked so....
Yes, is the short answer. If there is cavitation pitting on 1 liner, the others have it to. They just have not been damaged to the point of leaking.
Big gamble to do 1 cylinder and not the others. Safe thing is to do all 6 cylinder kits.
Cummins shows an installation tool but...
Engine is still at the machine shop. I was calling around and Rustyshakleford turned me on to a sand blasting Co. Well, since I don't have a flat bed trailer at the present time, I decided to build a pair of tow feet so I can flat tow it to the blaster.
I cut out the parts, drilled the 1" hole...
