Hello and Welcome from Colorado. Boyce should be able to provide you with a vehicle that will provide you good service with minimal headaches. In the meantime you could read here on this site a variety of the Technical Manuals related to the deuce. Even the Operator Manual could give you...
In the cab is a trolly brake mainly used during hooking and unhooking the trailer. The activation is from lever on a long stalk, off the steering column. definitely not to be used as a parking brake with the engine off. the "air line" hook ups for a towed trailer via the pintle and another...
Great thread. Thanks for starting it. I would love to have an M118 for my M275. Sadly, next to impossible to find one. Will be following this with a lot of interest.
You would think that for that kind of money and all the other work that was done the builder would have separated the rear axles farther apart. would not take much of a rock or flex in the suspension to do major damage to tires/suspension/drivetrain. basically an awesome looking hangar queen...
I would have thought you would still need to rebuild the angled ends of the truck frame where the ramps come off as the pivots are directly above that on the dump frame. Perhaps the 818 ramps are attached to the frame differently than my m275. not that a bit of frame welding would be too much...
This is just such an awesome truck. I love seeing it rigged out and you using it. I have seen Gin trucks used in oil and forestry but it seems rough terrain forklifts have replaced a lot of the applications. Still, I lust after your truck and shamelessly love it.
Will likely have to do something about the ramps on the rear of the tractor frame. thats where you would have to place the pivots. so strength issues from the conversion may come into play. Have you considered drive line swap instead. I am sure you know that dump trucks have a hard life on...
Thanks for helping me remember an experience with my father. I think it was in the summer of 1967. My dad was the chief inspector for an airline that operated DC-3's(C-47). Anyway, one had just gone thru some major maintenance and it needed testing. He and I accompanied the pilot on a test...
Auxiliary air connection point. There is a valve to open or close the end of this air line. there should also be a brass screw-on cap for the end of this line connected by a short chain so it does not get lost. the cap could be loose and the valve partly open leading to the chattering you...
Welcome from Colorado! It certainly looks like she had been someones baby. I see a lot of work was done in the engine bay and the outside looks like new paint. try to just work on one thing at a time until it gets sorted out.
I would add that a good air wrench is a great option as long as you have a good air source. on the road, as long as the truck is running you have a good air source. if parked indoors running the engine may not be practical or safe. sometimes, even outdoors, on the road, running the engine...
Thank you for your posts, pics and observations. Even if you have done something before its always good to get another perspective or reminder. seems like these projects tend to drag out over months if not years. so much info and history here it can be daunting to track it all down. like the...
