    XM757 battery box fixings

The battery box is getting full treatment, with insulation, heating and Chargetek 500 maintainer. Some parts are near impossible to find for this vehicle, so the copper tubing for heating is home made and the insulation comes from a GI polyethylene sleeping mat. :-)

    XM757 muffler installed

This is a muffler, which was added in an MWO back in the '70s for this vehicle to reduce the "noise polution" while driving the backroads of Germany where these vehicles were stationed. It may look precarious from this angle, but is also supported by the fuel burning heater exhaust pipe. Haven't...

    Weather stripping source

Does anybody have a source for this weather stripping used around the door windows, at least on the m656/xm757 series vehicles? The width of the base portion is 3/4 inch. It may be classified as a "P" profile extrusion. Thanks.

    Dome light questions

Austin Weber seems to have an endless supply of these, does any of you use them? What are they made of, aluminum, plastic, steel..? How deep are they, the "thickness" dimension and do they mount on a flat surface? How is the wiring done? Is the switch hard to operate? How is the light? I have...

Thanks. Part of the problem with the part number could...

    Trip to Joe Naglich, PA

Visited Joe and John Naglich yesterday in St Marys, PA. Nice people! The reason for the trip was to pick up M656/XM757 parts and I ended up with a haul, the tire was too much for the little Focus, so they are bringing it to Aberdeen for pick-up at that time... Well I did get some hard to find...

    Idaho to Virginia

I have made a small downpayment on this 8x8 truck bed at IMP in Idaho and need to check on transportation costs to get it home before completing the deal. Has anybody any experience with uship.com? Alex would like it moved by June.... Here is an image of the bed, about 8x15 ft and all aluminum.

    New Unimog

The U20 model. ........According to Mercedes-Benz, the U 20 has been designed for small- to medium-sized local authorities as well as gardening and landscaping contractors. Although it is the smallest Unimog, Mercedes claims that it is just as capable as the larger models, sharing familiar...

Is there a listing of the vendors, who were signed up for last year's Aberdeen, I have some second hand information that a vendor from PA may have Ford 8x8 parts and figured I could just call them one by one and ask..... Thanks,

Visit to Jim Henry's place in NC

Spent a couple of hours looking for 8X8 parts, found only two wheels in poor condition, but saved them nevertheless. Here are images to drool over. Snatch block question

The snatch blocks can be used in various configurations to gain mechanical advantage, however the type needed for "Gun Tackle" set-up seems hard to find. Has anybody spotted one of these, with the extra feature marked in the diagram below? Should be for 5-ton truck winch (5/8" dia wire rope)...

    Long haul milage numbers

A couple of results from the cross country trip back in 2006. The data is in the image description. Those are average numbers, so they include fuel stops and idling times. The 1,360 mile run from Ventura, CA to OK City, OK averaged 9.52 MPG and that was without the trailer/tow. The weight was...

    Plastigage for rod bearing checkup

I have had a discussion with Robert (Rdixiemiller) about checking my rod bearings to determine where the engine "knock" comes from. What range of Plastigage thicknesses should I look for and does age matter (oldies on ebay)? I need to get my deuce road ready again and if I don't get started on...

    Parts vs whole cost

What's wrong with this picture!? I have already spent money on heaters and related parts equivalent to 1/3 of what I paid for the whole truck and I'm not done yet. Nothing new I know, it's just something to think about, part of the addiction, the excitement of finding the "right part". Meanwhile...

    Methanol up again....

The cost of making biodiesel has once again gone up...methanol is now $5.00/gallon and will be close to $5.50 soon. That's twice what I paid two years ago. Veggie oil is costing the restaurants more than $20.00/cubie now, which is up from $13.00 also two years ago. As a result, the restaurant...

    5-ton rear winch shear pins

In my quest to find NOS shear pins, I have come across a pair of pins for the M819 and M543 rear 45,000 lb winch. They are NSN 5315-00-282-2583 (bag marked 5315-282-2583). I have no use for them and will trade for 3-lever light switch in any condition as long as the levers are present or $10.00...
