Sounds like someone has been turning things under the hood... Military wants these things dummy proof. Well, that is not possible. How about resistant. Should not be able to mash.down the fun pedal enough to damage the engine.
With either truck, if you put Lockouts on the front, and remove the drive shaft between the rear axles is supposed to really help. This also helps around town manners.
Have heard conflicting reports about larger tires giving both better and worse mileage.
With the acelerator flat on the floor, it is about 2600 rpm and 50 mph. Pull out the hand throttle, and it is 2800 rpm and 52 mph. Best mileage has been on the highway at 50 mph--just under 12 mpg. Cargo cover not installed. Uphill, downhill, always 50 mph. However, put a M105 behind it, and...
When the trucks get a new engine, they also have the mileage reset to zero miles. That is how they keep track of when PM is required.
So, I would expect the green engine trucks to have low miles.
So, have you experimented with different regulator pressure on the PS performance? Some have suggested that 120 psi is ok. Anything in the manuals about that?
I was.told by a Cat mechanic who was an army mechanic in Desert Storm,.that all original engines are yellow. All green engines are replacement crate.engines--as mine is.
My A3 driving around town gets 6 mpg. Mixed city/highway its 7-8, while strictly highway it is 11+12. It.is.11 with the the pedal to the metal,.and 11 just 2 mph slower. Never got a.solid 12.yet. Thinking very seriously about adding propane injection. Anyone tried.that on an A3?
It shure is nice to finally have a general A3 questions forum where we don't have to constantly be.berated by some of the.smug A2 owners for our choice.of MV. There is plenty of room for all of us in this hobby.
It is interesting to note that if I keep the coolant system full (keep replacing what is lost to expansion), the trans does run a lot cooler. I asked a mechanic at the local Cat dealer (who worked in the motorpool on Bragg) about this loss of coolant (thinking I needed a new.cap) and he...
I had seen that post about the guy who let a friend take his A3 to pack down some snow and burned up the trans. So, so I was worried at first. Drove.it several hundred miles.with it reading hot, and the fluid smells like new. It did have engine oil when first picked up--not atf like it has...
What is the range on the trans temp guage? How many mV/degree? Mine appears to read about 50 degrees more than it should. I would expect the trans and engine to start out the same when first starting the truck, but the trans starts out 50 degrees higher.
