If I have a completely legal manner in which to insure them in my home state (OR), can I share it? It would have saved me a massive amount of headache and heartache when buying in and prior to securing the insurance.
Most companies out there are categorically unaware of these vehicles and what...
Welcome to my world:
https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/m1088-camper-conversion.193622/
Everything has been larger to deal with but I can't believe how much I really like the truck so far. It has been, and will continue to be, a massive learning experience but I am willing to bet it will...
Upon further investigation, the heater core is fine. The mist invading the cab came though the vent (didn't know this until I took the dash apart to understand how it works). Tracing the vent feed, I took a look at the rad I can see a seep of coolant coming down its fins. Ugh.
Any helpful...
I had vaporized anti-freeze fog coming from my heater last trip around the block. I haven't started ripping it apart yet but wanted to see if there were any tricks to it. Anyone done this recently and had any tidbits to pass along?
This is also based on the assumption that it is the heater...
From Jeff at Perfection (https://www.perfectionequipment.com ). The price he gave me was $239 each plus a guess at shipping. He never obtained actual shipping cost because I never ordered anything through him but he guessed that it'd be around $50 to me in Oregon.
That's not correct for the combo unit. Jeff was very patient about getting this clarified: PP997900 is for the bag only. It was ~$500 for a shipped pair. He had a separate number for the shock (PP954900) and it is definitely NOT included with the PP997900. The combo unit was something like...
As promised a while ago, I broke down my defunct unit for some pics.
The unit as removed from the cab, 4 bolts hold it in at the top, 4 bolts at the bottom:
Remove the two nuts and the air line input to remove the upper mount from the shock/bag assembly:
Removal reveals the airbag (or more...
More solid progress over the past week/weekend:
Spring leaf removal has been completed and the ride is WAY better than it was with the full pack. The steps in pictures-
Remove all the nuts from the spring studs sticking through the plate at the top of the rubber tower, and remove the bracket...
Did anyone notice this at Coldmaster:

$680 on sale now....
It might be a challenge to fit the vent/blower unit (32" wide x 14" deep x 6" high), but sounds like it's at least the...
It was a good week/weekend for the truck. Picked up the passenger seat from the Subaru and then a used cab airbag from Martin at FMTV Sales. Thurs morning, I ran up to Olympia to pick up a set of frame doublers from Quade at Overland Adventure Trucks to use as a base for my subframe. They...
Thanks for those links and the commentary. Makes a lot of sense, particularly about the wheel halves... Where were you when I swapped the tires in September??!?!?! Looks like I have a bit of work to do this weekend.
Your static balancer is great and looks like it's for the earlier MV's, you...
Where/how do you get these dynamically balanced? I've called all around the Portland, OR area and all the industrial tire places are telling me they can't spin something of this magnitude. Any advice? I've tried a local Firestone, the commercial side of Les Schwab, GCR, and Superior. I...
The seat back profile feels good to my spine and it has decent side bolsters too. It doesn't lock me in like a racing bucket seat would but it's both soft enough and firm enough to be comfortable. Being OEM-issue, I am assuming the seating surfaces will hold up to the usage it's going to see...
I've wanted to swap seats out because even though mine were in nice looking shape, they were like riding on lumber. I had been casually keeping an eye on Craigslist and surfing this sub-forum for solutions others have used. This past week, I came across a pair of seats from a <9,000 mile 2018...
I did the same thing and had a pair made locally for $139. Dropped them off, grabbed lunch, they were there when I came back:
I see you're in WA state. If you're near Portland, they are near PDX:

Thanks B-Dog. I may have sourced a set locally but will drop a line if that falls through.
I won't have an air gap between the box and chassis, but there will be sufficient space to allow full articulation of the suspension and avoid the tires scrubbing the bottom of the box. The tires are...
