RS 9000 Ranchos were what we replaced worn shocks with at motor pool, my avatar is an 89 bronco that I rebuilt top to bottom and then sold for 8500. I would also use rancho steering stabilizers if you want to take the jerk out of the steering
Also the tanks on the cucv is not baffled, during 12 years in the motor pool i have seen alot of that. We used to take out the sending unit in install a baffle bucket that the sending unit sets in. the problem was solved. It really isnt a big deal unless it stops moving altogether.
