    glow plug resistor by-pass mod

I did not know that Doghead was banned at the time I posted that comment. I do not need to know the reasons why, I feel this is not the place to discuss it. I just wanted to note I did not know and I was just saying he would have had a better technical answer than I as to why I stated that.

    glow plug resistor by-pass mod

I think I will let Doghead rebuttal your reply in more detail, but I will say that bypassing the resistor has absolutely nothing to do with your GP relay going out. The resistor when all GP are working supplies about 12 volts, bypassing it to the 12 volts side will always supply 12 volts...

    electric trouble

It must be late, this is the turn signal part of that external multiple handle switch/lever. But it is the same process to change it out as the turn signal switch. The wipers, turn and cruise would all be on this lever; but the CUCV does not have cruise.

    electric trouble

What Rich says is correct and you need the special tool to change it out. I have done this repair before on the wiper/turn signal switch and it is not difficult if you have the correct tool. The last M1009 I rebuilt had the same type of issue and one reason the place I got it from sold it. When...

I knew what this was about when I read the topic, nice Ibis Tek bumper! I personally like the way they look, makes the hmmwv look meaner.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I got one of those from eBay about a year ago, have never tired to use it yet. There is a post here on how to make one and use it, but most people just trial and error the shifting. I have followed that process, but since I have the tool I need to learn how to use it. Below is the part...

    Doghead relay problem; self inflicted

Interesting, to me that would just seem the installation just opened up over time and did not burn out. But if you replaced it and that fixed your problem guess it was no good. I bought 12ft of the fusible link wire from Summit, it is always good to have on hand. Note, when you do the Doghead...

    Headlights booster harness from LMC

First of all LMC is not removing bulbs from the packing, that is just a general packaging from the manufacture. You can clearly see on the packaging multiple part numbers with check box. Since sealed beams do not have H4, H1, H7 or any type of removable bulbs, none are included. The harness is...

    Considering first CUCV purchase

I know it has been said already to walk away, but... I buy these M1009 for less than that asking price, completely fix them up and sell them. I would not touch that one for anything but scrap/parts in fear that the engine or trans is bad. If they did not know it is a 24v system and you need to...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Wow, did you win the lottery? I have a Plasma and Welder as well and they are nice tools to have and you will find they come in real handy for just about anything. Both mine are from Harbor Freight, got a really good deal on the Plasma that I could not pass up. What plasma & welder did you get?

Just picked up my first M1010!

Welcome, I miss my M1010 they are great trucks and fun to drive. They are a huge head turner when people see you driving them. The one I had was also black from a police department and used it as a SWAT van.

    M1009 brake same as civy?

Yes, you order parts for a 1984 K5 6.2L 4WD regardless of the year you have. You are also correct that the hub socket is different from the 1984 and 1985+. This is why I have the socket set that covers both and the 14-bolt as well. Axles, make sure they are the 10-bolt. I just spent $200 on...

    M 1028 gear ratio

Technically it should be in the "CUCV Hot Rodding and Modification" section as it is a non-stock modification. Just looking in there I see multiple posts on the subject of gears/axle and transmission mods.

To use a fuel additive or not in m1008

I try do the same every fill up with the TC-W3 marine oil and run the Sea Foam a few times between oil changes. I also try to only fill up at Murphy USA (Walmart) as their diesel fuel is at least 5% bio to as high as 20%. I have noticed that my trucks run quieter with the Walmart fuel with the...

    Auction/eBay/CL Posting Policy-MUST READ

Thanks, much needed post! I know exactly what auction listing that hint or “sliding under the radar” post referenced, one I was watching. I do not like people posting links to active auctions for the reasons you noted. Especially when it may be one that not allot of people know about...

    M1009 Fusebox questions.

If you have fuse problems are you sure it is the fuse block and not wiring elsewhere? Have you checked to make sure all wiring is not exposed to ground out and cause a short? Checked each fuse post with a meter to check loads? You cannot just replace the fuse panel with out replacing the whole...

No more Wellman ("Swellman") glow plugs in my CUCVs...

Yes you can try the shop vac but it may not always work, just make sure the GP hole is sealed to get good suction. Some also will used compresses air to blow the tip out, but that is risky in my opinion. The best tool to pull them out is a hemostat that you can get from Harbor Freight for...
