NICE WORK!!!
I just found a gallon of tan CARC, and am going to rough up the existing paint job (tan CARC with lots of crappy, mismatched rattle-can "touch up") to top-coat it. Mind if I ask you how you did your prep work? Orbital sander? Are the pics in post #32 indicative of how much...
Yep -- the $10k wasn't the real problem. It was the subsequent "care and feeding" budget that scared me out of it. Oh well. I've got my CUCV, and I love it!
There was a 5-speed diesel Defender on Minneapolis CL this past spring for $10K. I can't tell you how tempting that was! But yeah, I agree, for the money I'll stick with my US MV. That said, though, I have seen some *really* cool MoD Rovers in my travels with the military! I'm sure you've...
Very true. They are awesome trucks, and the fact that they can be maintained and serviced with a handful of tools is downright amazing. If I could afford one, a diesel Defender would be in my stable. That ain't happening, though, so the CUCV suits me just fine for now. It's a capable and...
It's been all Triumph and MG for me. My buddy has a Rover Classic though, and I'd help wrench on occasion. After the second cracked manifold, he finally unloaded it, though. Neat trucks, but wow -- they sure like attention!
roflIt just had me confounded. It was really obvious once I made sense of it, but I was making it far more complicated than it needed to be; I've owned too many British cars, and was thinking I'd let the Lucas electrical genie out of the bottle, so to speak, and really screwed something up...
Loads of info in the forums here -- do a search on gauge installation, sending units, plumbing, etc...
Also note that if you use the panel that houses the volt meter, you will probably need to isolate the gauge from the metal panel itself with some kind of insulation, or you'll have a...
Thank you for the suggestion! I have wondered whether my issue might be exhaust-related. I have been underneath and shaken/kicked at the exhaust and never can quite replicate the noise I am hearing, but I'm glad to hear it's not out of the realm of possibility that that's my issue.
In fact...
Well, I'm at a loss. I pulled the inspection cover (finally) and see no cracks. I'll look again to be sure my eyes aren't playing tricks on me, but I just can't find a thing. I really need to find another 6.2 to compare the noise levels to. Maybe I'm just used to my VW and Mercedes diesels...
Thanks in advance, CARNAC!!!

UPDATE: It's apparently not either alternator or the PS pump. I removed the belts for each and drove the truck, and the noise is still there. Time to check the flywheel!
DO you have any markings INSIDE your truck? Mine had some markings stenciled inside (I need to go look at it again to remind myself of where I saw them -- on the doors or in the door jambs maybe). I'd like to find out a bit more about my truck, too; I'll have to go check mine again!
Thanks for all the advice, folks. I think that tonight I'll remove the PS pump belt just to rule that out -- it's the only belt I have no removed in my quest to isolate this noise. After that, I'll start poking around with the flywheel again. Whatever the case, I hope it's a simple fix. Hate...
I wouldn't sweat it one bit. I am sure convoy drivers have seen it all... there are far more dangerous scenarios on the road than a car slipping temporarily into an open column convoy (which is the only convoy formation I've seen on the interstate). I certainly didn't mean to suggest that you...
I believe most states require that the lead vehicle obey stop signs and traffic lights, but all subsequent vehicles need not stop. Something to that effect, but yes, you're right, there are specific laws on the books.
Here's a blurb from a PR .pdf published by the Minnesota Guard:
"Can I...
I owe my CUCV ownership to the impression that military convoys left on me as a kid. Seems we used to see one or two on every longer road trip of my youth! I hadn't seen one in ages, and over 4th of July weekend and week, on a trip from IL to WI, we passed several MV convoys. It was sure a...
