I'm going to use black padded vinyl. I'm also spraying rubberized undercoating on the bottom of the truck....I'm keeping the floor bare metal though, cause I just like the look of it. I will be making my own diamond plate "floormats" with rubber coating though. Not retired, just self employed...
I didn't like the way the old 5th wheel was attached at all, if you look back at some of the pictures you will get a sense of why. Also since I am repainting the truck I'm taking every single piece off degreasing and sandblasting all of it first instead of just blasting it with paint which is...
Well here are a few pictures....Like I said a good part of my day was taken up with removing the carb, governor, intake and exhaust manifolds....BTW, can you reinstall just the carb? Or does the governor need to be on there as well? Didnt even think to look. For whatever reason, now the truck...
I'd love the same engine combo as you, where could I pick up a 6.2. What year is your engine/tranny? I'm only 21 also. I'd love sometime for a detailed set of instructions on your swap cause I think that's the way I want to go. Got some grinding done today and a bit more painting spent about 3...
Good question about the fuel tank. I assumed it was the original tank, I will have to find out what it is off. And btw I plan on using mine as a DD also :-) .
I tried to take the lugs off with my 3/4" drive socket set with no success I too stood on a 4 ft pipe and I weigh just over 200lbs. Indeed it does have a little blue stripe that resembles an engine under the hood. I'd love to swap it but not exactly sure where to start.
Today or tommorow I will...
Ok guys here are some pics!
The goofy pic that shows the crowbar attatched to the end of the engine hoist: I was too lazy to set up my overhead crane, so used the engine hoist. However, when I pryed the 5th wheel free from the last few welds, it flipped upside down onto the frame...I couldnt...
Muffler? What muffler? I already took that off, I plan on running dual 5" stacks behind the cab straight piped. As for trailers the only things that I have that would work are a 28 foot 5th wheel foatbed , a couple of 10 ton equipment trailers (pintle), and a couple small car trailers(ball...
Now that would be something to disguise a small kegerator as a Jerry can.. I bet a plywood top would look amazing, and it might possibly help with noise inside the cab as well?
I'm beginning the search for a trailer for the truck as well o.o
I know what you mean about feeling sick :(, but Im liking the green better everytime I look at the pictures. Didnt even think that the step would be tapered, I would have put a can in, but I dont have one! I will get one at my local army surplus store one of these days, Im sure they would have...
Well, got more work done again today. Got slowed up a little bit because my freaking metabo angle grinder went out on me . So had to run to tractor supply and pick myself up a new one. Did a bit more painting, and got my hitch fabricated and attatched (more or less). Still need to drill...
Couldn't tell ya, but I can tell you that it was a really tough enamel paint, handsanding pretty much does nothing to it. Loved the red as all of my trucks are red, but it was in need of a repaint anyway.
Well, I removed the rear platform today, did some more painting, removed the fuel tank cleaned it out, and painted it as well. Did a bit of sandblasting on the frame that was under the platform. Started working on fabricating the 2 1/2" hitch receiver that will be going on the back. And also...
It was originally an m215 dump the 5 the wheel was added by tom at Alfa heaven sometime in the 80s. Any easy way to tell if its a wheel cylinder or a hub? Upon closer inspection it is in fact gear oil so it seems like it is a hub seal.
Well finally here are a few pictures of the m215 after a day or 2 spent on painting. Im doing small sections at a time for convenience sake and because of the recoat times on the paint that Im using.
The green that you see is the result of sandblasting the section to be primed, priming with...
I would think that lockers would be absolutely critical in deep snow. Your best bet would be to use wider tires and try to stay on top of the snow. As mentioned if you plan on carrying alot of gear and added a bit more weight than 6x6 might be the way to go.
Bob, like I said I think the problem was solved by removing and replacing the thermostat and adjusting the height of the coolant in the radiator. I ran the engine with the belt removed and the thermostat off and no bubbles, water pump is also new.
All the brake lines are in good shape and look...
Well, lowered the coolant level, and ran the truck at idle for about 10 minutes, and than drove for about 10 minutes, and than lost the brakes! On the bright side it seems like the radiator issue has been solved! Thanks for the help, now on to dealing with the brake issue..
