I just picked up an old take off winch from what was likely an REO studebaker 1952 M35 gasser.
The winch looks very similar to the std M35A2 winch but the drum lock latch looks different, has a circular knob, and it doesn't appear to be spring loaded, Not sure if if its supposed to spring...
I mounted a cheap 12V electric winch to the bed to haul loads up omto the bed. It comes in handy.
Wired it to one battery and ground
An electric winch probably won't get your deuce out of trouble, but to use it for hauling loads onto the bed of a deuce, its priceless in my opinion.
Background:
I have a 1971 M35A2 C turbo, Love the truck and its a great runner with no problems. Its a no winch truck. I occasionally work it in our farm fields or to haul something like firewood or neighbor needs. Our fields drain pretty well, not usually very muddy, even in the spring and...
Nice truck - glad your home safe.
Regarding the wipers failing at a critical moment, I found its handy to bring Rain-X wipes on a recovery or in the deuce in general. Can see well without wipers, even in heavy rain.
I won a nice M105 trailer on GL (my first); I plan to make a 150 mile trek (300 mile round trip) to pick it up with my M35A2 at Ft Drum.
I plan on brining all the necessaries for a deuce recovery for possible breakdowns, cell phone, money, tools, etc. But Is there anything special to...
If you look at the generator, you will see a screw that says (if its clean enough) "turn to adjust voltage" You might try that, but that screw might be frozen and it says "do not use lubricant" on the screw so use a good quality drive/bit.
Best of luck to you and have a safe trip.
Occupational radiation dose limits are:
5000 millirem per year to the whole body (torso)
50000 millirem to extremities (hands and feet)
500 millirem to fetus of pregnant worker.
This is how much one can get exposed to on the job, but no matter if the dose is within these limits radiation...
Does anyone have a deuce tow bar they would be willing to lend or rent out for a short recovery in Western NY?
Have a great running deuce and need to pick up a friends non-running deuce from Ft Drum when this GL "trucks on hold " iissue gets cleared up.
Anyone in upstate / western NY got a...
"Perhaps, but we haven't yet determined that radium was used on any of the gauges. My '69 is both glow, and radium free. It has no measurable gamma or beta emissions. It has none of the apparatus needed to have tritium dials... "
Early Tritium wasn't in any apparatus- it was tritiated solvent...
So it kind of comes down to- if you scrape the paint off from 500 gauges, then swallow it, you might get cancer in 50 years...maybe?
So long as you dont ingest it, you would be fine. Radium behalves like calcium in the body and goes to the bone and has a long cycle to get out of the body...
I hope its not radium, I've done a fair amount of radium gauge and glow in the dark button remediation years ago. It can be a pain to cleanup on old devices, the radium creeps through watchglasse, etc. even if the device is intact. The alpa (emits alpha, beta and gamma) emission from it...
Did a search and didn't come up with much info.
Has anyone tried using a standard canvas tarp as a bed top cover?
I have a great camo cover, but have a tan deuce, and it doesn't look right. I found a local place that has tan canvas tarps in various sizes ifor like $55 thinking one might...
Hi & Welcome;
I'm ralso in Western NY (Brockport/Rochester Area) relatively new as well and recently purchased my first M35A2 from Ft Drum. This has caused 2 of my friends to also bid and win deuces. Just made a recovery from Drum last week.
Check the GL auction for Ft drum listings wait...
I've had my first deuce for about 1 month now and love it. I have experimentally run some diesel and hydraulic fluid and it has run fine.
My source for cheap (nearly free) hydraulic fluid offers good clean stuff that is very clear and requires a little filtering. So I am entused about using a...
I think CLR is actually a mild solution of Phosphoric Acid - the acid converts iron oxide into iron phosphate - hence removing rust. Its also used in parkerizing in a similar way (for us guys that parkerize guns, etc.). You can buy buy it in many commercial forms like naval jelly, etc...
I've done a search, but didn't come up with much - just wanted to know what is a good (and safe to the deuce) way to efficiently remove the grime in the engine compartment. Can you steam clean or pressure wash with some simple green or use other degreaser or is it just best to leave it alone...
I did a preview of several deuces the week of July 4th. Kevin, the GL employee was with us the whole time and kept an eye on what we were looking at and addressed all questions. I think he keeps a good eye on the yard, nobody gets in or out without him escorting him on that day anyhow...
I'm a newby here, waitin on my new deuce EUC, reading up and came accross this thread.
I think someone has bobbed a deuce and put rear steer on it not to far from me for sale
Army Truck Plow Truck 2 1/2 Ton
I don;t know him nor am encouraging an ad, just passin on the info as it can be...
Thanks for all the help guys! Great info. I'm going to learn as much as I can and get organized before a purchase. If I can find a rig that can haul two Deuces, maybee one of my local friends will pic one up too.
Thanks so much you guys are great! This is a great forum I wish I found it...
Guys - Thanks so much for the offers to help. Really impressed with the great folks on this board!
I think Lance is right - I will take it slow and get some more learning under my belt before I take the actual plunge. I don't have that much auto mechanics under my belt - more gunsmithing...
