To recover seats, I have used military-colored Cordura nylon fabric. Although not as classic as canvas, it seems to hold up pretty well. Definitely a little more moisture resistant. You can find it in the military greens and coyote brown on eBay in small quantities for reasonable prices -...
The only reasonably priced online store I could find was KBI:
https://www.koldban.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=20021
But its not all that reasonable esp. when you factor the Hazmat fees
Try to call around at local truck shops - As mentioned previously $16 sounds like a bargain!
The box seat is handy for storage. I have:
Log Chain
Tow Strap
Fire extinguisher
flashlights
Jersey work gloves
ether
small butane torch (HF cheapie - but works well)
some basic tools (screwdrivers, crescent wrench, channel-lock pliers)
Cargo tie-down straps You never know when your going to...
On one of my trucks I switched to the OD Iron 24V "aftermarket" style jeep electric wipers. They actually work very well. They are colored red/black plastic, but durable enough - I just spray painted them OD to match the inside. They are so far 100% reliable unlike the air wipers I had...
Good to hear I see they have interesting trucks from time to time - When I saw your truck initially listed on Ebay, I was tempted to bid on it, but didn't 'cause I'm on the opposite side of the country.
I have since purchased a well used M109 from Ft Drum (GL) and hope to get it to look as nice...
I would say you chose wisely - running good versus looks. My first truck was a real ugly duckling with cosmetics, but runs fantastic.
The rust and paint can be fixed fairly easily, In my opinion, the MVs look very good with basic doll up jobs. The government seemingly had GIs sloppily brush...
I had a similar problem (brights wouldn't come on) found one of the wires was previously "repaired" and poorly crimped - came undone after driving a while. If your meter indicates -might need to follow the wires back for breakge. Easy fix -and didn't need to buy anything expensive.
I use gillespie 686 tan from Rapco parts.
You can get it in gallon cans or spray rattle cans. Spray cans match the gallons for touch ups. Paint matches original tan carc very well.
That truck looks great. While the driveshaft dent is a likely culprit for the 40MPH vibration, I had a similar thing on my second truck when I initially recovered it - would vibrate around 40MPH or so. Drove it 400+ miles on the recovery. It smoothed out altogether after driving around a few...
I use the same small propane "catalytic" heater in my "No Heater" Trucks. It doesn't have an open flame that you can touch but does get hot on the surface - so keep it where you won't touch it. I used self tapping sheet metal screws on the base to hold it in place and it doesn't move and I...
0 - 5 degrees F, One truck (with flame heater) starts on first press of the button - even if left for weeks (love that truck!). The other (ether start) with way fewer miles and hours is harder to start and takes a shot of ether before she will fire even at temps in the 20s. Both trucks have...
Thank you for taking the time to document this. I am awaiting EUC approval for a well used M109 and was wondering about safe box removal other than a crane.
Where do you get the tall trailer jacks? - a camper sales/supply buisness?
Thanks
Winch trucks are cool, but I've got both and found I've never needed to really use the winch. I too thought I really, really needed a winch and ended up just buying another truck with winch - for not much more than what a winch set-up cost. The winch admittedly looks cool, but probably not a...
I think if your looking for reasons "not to own a deuce" here - your asking in the wrong place. :-D Its like going to a dog show and asking owners about the reasons not to own a dog. you will find more reasons of why not to own one from people that don't have one (in my opinion).
I think the...
I second the Gorilla Glue & clamping for the eyelets (and other patches for that matter)- I fixed several of my eyelets and patched a hole and they hold like iron.
I live in WNY and I can't find any better deal on filters than Deuceman51 - he has all oil & fuel filters for like $50 & change delivered. Come with all the right gaskets and last time I ordered from him they were in my hands in 2 days.
Since you lost both low beams at once - I had that...
SEM paints sem paints, flexible coating, recolor auto interior, boat seats and panels, Sem color coat, sem aerosols
specialty vynil & leather paints are probably the best bet for long term durability. I have used SEM in tan, but I have had very good results thus far with OD Krylon Camo spray...
I have gotten by with 1/2 & 3/8 sets and breaker bars so far, buying individual larger sockets when needed - you can use a 1/2 to 3/4 adapter. Also have a 1 inch impact wrench - but that is probably overkill.
I found a small leak on the line from the Primary filter to the IP - I just noticed a tiny drip on the driveway one day while it was parked and running. It didn't have any symptoms or difficulty starting.
I simply replaced the copper line that was there. While copper probably isn't the best...
Congrats on your purchase. That M109A3 looks great. They look awsome in tan.
Good luck on your recovery, If I were you I would ask to get a letter from the owner and save a copy of the ebay listing about the movies its been in. Enjoy.
