My CUCV is running just fine... but...

I wanted to make a companion thread to My CUCV is running just fine thank you! Because, while my truck is running just fine, I know I've got work and I like full disclosure. My definition of "running fine" is kind of like a politicians definition of "true". Kind of smooshy. So... list your...

Convoy of USMC MTVR's,HMMWV in Jersey 4-1-10

Is that a hole cut into the back of that truck (in the second picture)? And as someone who escaped Hudson County (trust me, it was a lot rougher in the 70s and 80s than it is now) I'm disheartened at how civilized it's become.

My CUCV is running just fine thank you!

Oh, and one more thing. I had to get smogged in Oregon. With no engine work done on a 25 year old vehicle, I passed with flying colors.

My CUCV is running just fine thank you!

I've owned my m1009 for 2 months. It's my daily driver. I wanted a freeway speed diesel that was able to go 70 mph with a MPG of over 20 and no computer cruft in the engine compartment. Oh and it needed to have parts availability and no crazy things under the hood. The m1009 fit that bill and...

To Bob or not To Bob?

Too few options... My general equation when I decide what route to take with a vehicle is best summed up by: Where np is the number of vehicles of that year produced. Where ex is the number of vehicles of that year estimated to still exist in any condition. Where pa is the percentage of all...

    Fun with Relays

Ok, welll.... Stopped off foar coffee and saw my buddy with the duece. He popped over and jumped it (yeah, I could have done it with the itty bitty golf but I'm pretty sure the battery wouldn't have enough cranking amps to do the job). So, interesting things. a. I think part of the problem was...

    Fun with Relays

Ok, well, replaced all my terminals since after cleaning one I couldn't get it to tighten back down. Dielectric grease and liquid taped (they have it in green!) everything I should. Now it's just waiting for a friend to pop over with his deuce to jump the cucv. I should have a few of those...

    Fun with Relays

Didn't get to do anything tonight but an interesting side note (which is making me lead more and more to batteries/cables).... I was cleaning the inside of the truck (tools strewn about == blech) and accidentally tapped the top two posts on the starter relay. Heeeeyyyyy... I know that sound. I...

    Fun with Relays

Ok, so... Both Gen2 and VM replaced. Doghead mod done. GPR done. batteries: Front (2006) reads 14.5. Rear (2009) reads 20. Cleaned obvious connections to ground (I'm sure I missed some, but it started raining and is getting dark), cleaned DS alt connections, cleaned battery connections. Turn...

    Fun with Relays

Yeah, I'm eyeing the battery too. **** troublemaker. So, list for tonight is: - Undo alt wires, clean up, dielectric grease and retighten. - Undo battery wires, clean up, dielectric grease and retighten. - Undo ground and clean it up and then... while I'm at it I'm just going to replace the...

    Fun with Relays

    >Where you able to start the truck? Or did you just get the "clicks"? Just clicks. >When you are turning the key, is it in the start postion or just run position? Start. When I turn to start, Gen2 comes on. Gen 1 comes on a moment later (although come to think of it a tad less bright, even...

    Fun with Relays

A few weeks back, my power steering belt broke (ahhh yes... nothing is more fun than steering and breaking a very heavy, exceptionally quick brick without power steering...) I drove it home and replaced all of the belts. Yes, I know... this shouldn't have anything to do with starter relays, but...

New to M1009's and need honest answers

I use my bone stock 85 as my daily driver. I get around 21-24 depending on highway/city. I do 70 regularly 75 on a rare occasion. As for upkeep, so far, I've found them to be simple as dirt to work on. Nothing particularly surprising that I've seen so far at least on a general maintenance front..

    New m1009 owner, odd sound.

Yeah, water pump is something I plan doing soon. I checked it for leaks and wobble, but I'm going to swap it soon anyhow. I'm a firm believer in critical systems replacement on a rotating basis. Water pump in a month. Batteries in two. This summer replace my leaky windshields that are now gooped...

    New m1009 owner, odd sound.

Ok, yanked the fan clutch today. I'm surprised it was still holding together. The entire back end was missing! Took me a whole of an hour and 15 minutes of that was walking to the neighbor to bum a 1/2inch nut since one of mine decided that it was going to go *poof* :/ On top of fixing the...

Noise upfront / Gas Pedal Vibration

Check the fan clutch too. That's one of the symptoms I've noticed. I just shook it off as diesel rumble, but I'm fairly sure when I replace the fan clutch that will go away.

    New m1009 owner, odd sound.

Wellllll the verdict is in! I checked today and sure enough, datsunaholic was very very close. Fan clutch is utterly trashed. Very visable movement and I can see where bearings use to be. So, time to yank it. I should be able to get this out without ripping the radiator out, correct? BTW, if...

    New m1009 owner, odd sound.

What's the fun of doing it with the engine off? No, I have't even dove in yet. Spent most of yesterday working on my homemade antennas for the beast. (2 meter and HF) I'll check on it after work and see if I can get it to move. Never replaced a water pump on one of these. I've done one...
