It is a nv4500 2wd.
I'm not positive but i believe the motor plate is the same on auto and standard tranys. Ill look into it and get back to ya on that!
So you have a 4x4 nv4500 with a transfer case? Or is it a getrag? DLD or DHD transfer case? Just curious!
Here are some pics of the clearances of the tightest areas on my project.
It may be hard to tell but there is 3/4" between the firewall and back of head. I'm going to do some trimming on the battery tray near the fuel filter housing.
Also notice the tranny cross member! Turned out pretty...
I have to say, it is such a relief after you get the engine sitting where its going to stay!
So what are your plans for wiring the interior of the truck? Is the original wiring ok yet? Are you going to rewire it? Converting to 12v?
oops!... yeah your right on the ratio. I've been off topic too long I guess. I didn't weld on the frame at all but, that doesn't mean I wouldn't if I had to. It's not like an over the road semi where you're dealing with the heavy loads and high speeds. Chances are you'll never put 20k miles...
Its good to see that you keep chuggin away at your project! Seems like you have about as much time to work on your truck as i do mine... feels like they will never get finished some days. Just spent the last hour reading this thread and seems that you have fallen on all of the same problems...

Take a look at this site. Fell on it wile doin some research for my 1981 chevy cummins project i'd like to get to one of these days. Do you have a 12 valve yet? Best engine ever made! I have 4 of them n wouldn't buy anything else lol
well.. a wile back, my dad talked to a guy that talked to a guy that must know a little of whats goin on... so i heard that about 95% of the m35a2 are gone and about 50% of the 900's are gone and they are going to try and pound the majority of the rest of them out this year yet!!! how that for a...
I made a homemade LP setup for my 06 cummins out of a 20lb propane tank, 12v shutoff solenoid, adjustable regulator, and some 3/8 fuel line to the intake just in front of the turbo. The knocking sound is because the LP wants to detonate earlier than diesel fuel. Thus making an advance in...
Thanks for the pic Trucknut! The only problem with the a3 wheels and tires is that they cost so much... I found a guy that would take 600 for a 95% tire mounted on a rim... $3600 is more than my truck is worth! lol I'm thinkin could get a whole a3 for that and part the rest out?
I'm really happy you all don't think i'm nuts, just seemed to me it would make a nice truck out of this old iron. I think it would look pretty sweet too! Nothan like rollin on good rubber! Also was wondering what/if the rime width is differant from my stock rims to the a3? Would 14.5's fit...
I'm not far enough in my project to be worrying about this yet but i go day to day thinking about this stuff and want to keep my eyes open if it would work. Will the rims and tires off a m35a3 bolt right on my m135? I have done some measuring and from what i can see, it would work...? Possibly...
Wow, yeah I'm wrong. It takes us 8+ hours to get to Louisville. Was thinking something else, I guess. As for going through Chicago, we are not too worried about it. Yeah the tolls suck but we brought three M931's back through there on our way back from Michigan. Only hit 20 minutes of rush hour...
Me and my dad have been thinking about coming! Maybe a few of my friends also. I wont have my m135 done but thinking about bringing one or two of dad's 900 series trucks with the atv's. 6 and a half hour drive from here but sounds like fun from what I've heard. Just not sure if we'll have all...
That sounds like a nasty heavy load. As for the speed, i believe it. It was about 2 miles to the mill with a good sized hill to clime and i got it going 35-40mph before it started climbing. It ended up clearing the top at about 12mph. One thing about these trucks that i have found is that...
Well, I didn't want to scare anybody out of posting but last fall i hooked one of our trucks on our hopper bottom on a weekend and hauled a dozen loads of corn to town. I pulled across the scale at 96,000 lbs!!!! and i could definitely tell it was back there! It sure wasn't a peterbilt but it...
Most weight hauled w/ 5 ton?
So i was just curious on what the most weight you all have hauled with the 923, 931 style trucks?! (or any 5 ton for that matter) Pics of your load would be fun to see too!
