Whack the starter with a hammer a couple of times then try it. (hey it works on the M880’s):lol:
I vote for dirty/loose/corroded connections or bad starter.

Agree with everything said so far. If the bulb is good, then a bad/dirty connection is suspect. This could be at the firewall connector, the fuse block, or in the instrument cluster connector or bulb socket. Also, look for things like this;
Good test procedure in the -34 manual, and from what I’ve seen, the relay is the weak link in the system, as well, as broken/dirty/corroded connections on the relay.

Poor batteries or loose/dirty/corroded...

BUT, I wanted to say GREAT JOB Brad! I love it when people come up with solutions like this!
I feel bad because I did a Alt rebuild write up that I never posted, because I knew someone else on here was working on one. And one of the hardest things to do are the...
Welcome Buck.
So did you disconnect the starter button?
You said no corrosion. Sounds like you know what you are doing, so I assume that there was no dirt, or a loose connection involved.
I can imagine a scenario where a starter button shorts out, then the starter kicks in, and with the...
