from looking in the TM it appears that both the tachometer/hourmeter and the speedometer/odometer are fully mechanical. I have the same problem with my speedo. The odometer works fine but the speedometer doesn't move. I'd say replace the tach gauge if you really want it to work.

Are you sure you truck has no FDC? I'm no expert, but I though pretty much all of the multi's had the fuel density compensator. That would be my place to start...take a picture of the area around the injector pump and post it, if it's got the compensator, someone will definitely let you know...
