moving axle forward with stock steering

Moved mine forward 1" to help clear the fenders and shortened the drag link, however the steering geometry was horrible, so I installed crossover.

    Vent Windows

Just checked GMpartsgiant and the driver's side NOS vent is now $403.96 and the passenger's side NOS vent is $325.94. So they are not getting any cheaper. Glad I got mine when I did.

    Vent Windows

The part numbers for the complete vent assemblies are 15634471 for the drivers side and 15634472 for the passeners side. I got both NOS from GMpartsgiant.com. About $300 apiece.

    Vent Windows

Your only other alternative would be to try to find a decent set in a salvage yard somewhere. The repop rubber just will not work. I will stick with what I said earlier - it seems acceptable to spend $600 for a set of tires which will wear out, but it seems unacceptable to spend $600 for...

    Problems already with ORD

You know, if you had paid with an American Express card, you could have filed a complaint with AMEX and the payment would have been suspended until the issue was resolved. The seller would not have been paid until arbitration was complete. I had to do this a couple times in the past. Bought...

    Problems already with ORD

Well.......... it sure seems this thread has become the "Bash ORD Thread" for sure. Having read the posts, I would like to say that it is easy for everyone to jump on the bandwagon, however mistakes do occur and it should be expected. Although in the mail-order business for over 100 years...

M1009 4" lift driveline vibration troubleshoot/new driveline components

I've just got to believe that there is more to it than simply driveshaft angle. I raised my M1028 5" and have absolutely no vibration whatsoever. Before I would spend big bucks for a new TC, I would have a driveshaft shop produce new, balanced shafts with new U-joints. Just my 2 cents.2cents

    vent windows

corelokt - trust me, I tried every possible way to rebuild my vent windows and nothing worked. I tried repop rubber from two different sources, and both sets were too big and looked horrible. Finding the NOS complete replacements is the only way to go. Check out Post #38 of my rebuild thread.

    Zero Rate Blocks

I can attest from experience that you will not be able to shorten the drag link sufficiently to compensate for moving the front axle forward one inch. Been there done that, it just don't work. The drag link must be LEVEL between the pittman and axle arm. Having said that, the best and easist...

    Zero Rate Blocks

Well, if you are going to raise your truck, you're gonna have to do something with your steering. I had originally installed a drop pitman and block under the wheel arm, but this was wasted money because the drag link would not shorten up enough with the axle moved forward one inch. Sell...

    Zero Rate Blocks

For my M1028 rebuild, I raised the truck 5" as follows: Rear - I installed ORD's shackle lift kit and 1" Zero-Rates. With this configuration, you need to be aware of a few things. First of all, the flip kit actually rotates the rear axle, because the front of the rear springs do not move...

    Correct puller for damper

Getting ready to replace the torsional damper on my M1028. The TM simply states "Using torsional damper puller, remove torsional damper from crankshaft.". I'm not big into borrowing tools, so I want to buy the correct puller. What would be the correct NAPA puller number? Thanks.

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

Allen; My disc brakes are much more responsive and non-problematic than the factory drums. The truck literally stops as good as my wife's sports car. I know that sounds crazy, but its true. The emergency brake cables attach to the calipers the same as the drums. The brake lines are...

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

As a follow-up to my previous post - Allenhillview, my truck will stop on a dime going forward or backward. The calipers are rebuilt 1977 Cadillac El Dorado with the emergency brakes. These things work flawlessly and will hold the truck on a steep incline. I have much more confidence in the...

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

When I first got my M1028, the rear brakes were locking up bad. Pulled the drums and discovered that the drum faces were scored so severly that new drums would be required. After adding up the costs for new drums, shoes, and everything else to completely rebuild the rear brakes, I decided to...

    Diy rock sliders

Folks, I just received my Rock Sliders from Shankum, and I can tell you that I am impressed to say the least! The quality of fabrication and weld is better that top quality - heck it is the best I have ever seen! Thanks Darren for an excellent product!

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

Well heck guys, I was hoping that the Balance Masters would solve your issues like they did for me. I know I love 'em.

    Wheel hop at 45 mph

Allenhill - After thinking about it more, I believe there is enough flex in the Balance Masters center plate to compensate for the rivet head thickness. I truly believe if you installed the Balance Masters with the tube turned inwards and then torqued your lug nuts to specified torque, the...
