Yesterday and today, I was able to make great progress. I had a minor setback when I was unable to loosen or tighten any of my 1/2" bolts and was perplexed as to what was the issue. This is a Matco 3/4" socket I have been using for over 40 years. That was the problem. I threw away a few bolts...
check your transfer case. I have had oil from the transmission go back and over fill the transfer case. I sent it to an Automatic Transmission shop and had it repaired and had them service the transmission and adjust the shift points. It worked perfect after that. Somethings I am not so willing...
I do like the look of the painted Line X on the m1009 tailgate and cover. Oh, that's right you can't see it. The CARC did a fantastic job. And I had CARC on my M1009 Mule floor as the primary floor covering and it wore well after several years of use, I hardly had any wear marks at the driver's...
The Wild Weasel has not been very cooperative when it comes to making progress. The rear gate was full of nasty things and even after I stripped it out, I could not get the rear hinges to open and close without great effort. I removed the gate and am working the hinges with heat 3 in 1 oil and a...
Last night I was home in time and the weather was just right. I set up my gate and gate cover outside and went in the barn and mixed the green CARC. I washed both parts thoroughly with DX330 wax and grease remover and applied several nice even coats to the parts. I squeezed the can and used...
CARC paint will stick to just about anything. It will paint a wad of grease and dry. It won't adhere to metal under the grease, but it will shell up and dry on the grease.
WOW after thinking about the pictures I posted yesterday I never took or posted any pictures of the M1009 with the doors and roof back on it. Senior moment or just crazy from the heat. I will redeem myself next time out in the barn. I must get the gate inside and jambs painted.
25 years ago, when I bought this M1009 I had all the OEM body parts. I still have everything except the front fenders. This gate I removed early on and was going to use it on another M1009 but decided to keep it so I could keep all the OEM parts together. I was originally going to LineX this...
Today was not a total wash. I was caught in a down pour in the middle of operations but after the rain slowed, I went back out and completed my task. Goal was to have the core support out of the Wild Weasel and that goal was met at 5PM. What a cobbling of hose and clamps on the oil cooler...
I did a lot of parts cleaning and parts replacing since my last post. The Wild Weasel is feeling like a stripper at the moment. It has no front axle or springs, and the front axle hosing is stripped down to the housing and gears. I pressed in new front outer axle U joints and all 4 ball joints I...
I was always told that the oil pressure sending unit is located the farthest from the oil pump and that is where you will get the most accurate oil pressure. That if I understand correctly is the end of the line for the oil galleys and would show that you have sufficient oil pressure thru the...
I have the doors back on and adjusted and then I thought I may as well get the rear gate bolted fast to the body. Well, that idea was short lived. It seems I overlooked the pre-painting of the jams. This is the OEM gate, and it is in remarkably good condition. I set it up on the stands and I was...
1979 Chevrolet light truck is a totally different animal then a CUCV. I am not sure that will help you. The basics are there but the CUCV is a totally different hybrid.
I was successful in getting the roof back on the M1009. Of course, it is just setting on with no seals. It is amazing how much lighter the top is with no windows in it. Today after work I plan om getting the doors back on and adjusted. I think this will be the last time I must take them off...
I asked a few friends and family to drop by today and help me get the rear cargo roof outside so I could sand it. That was a success. I ask if they would stop by at 5 to set it on the M1009. I have it sanded on the top side outside and will post more as progress happens.
And yes, I washed my...
I went out and worked on the wild weasel again today. I was off work today for Labor Day and spent it doing things I like to do. My R & R. The front differential oil was contaminated. The front wheel bearings were due to be serviced. They have been leaking a bit. I have the front axle pretty...
