Are you saying you don't have a rear bracket for the starter. That is a buttload of weight to be cantilevered out supported only by two starter bolts. Like I just read about the Space X test vehicle's explosion today.
Rapid unscheduled disassembly
What a great line that it.

Well you need to start doing some detective work. Pull the dist cap and check the points if good lube the shaft and set the points for .018". Next disconnect one of the spark plug wires and with a spare plug see it you are getting a hot spark (running) so you know the coil is ok. How long has...
On my M998 I was able to walk it around with a good sharp punch. These bolts typically fail not because the get rusted in place but because the base of the bolt work hardens from the weight of the starter and the torque of the starter.
Replace both for sure and make sure the rear bracket is...

If you are using the old shaft make sure you mark the drive shaft to pinion so it goes back on with the same orientation. If the drive shaft is out of phase (180 degrees) it can cause a vibration. Have seen this problem with a Nissan frontier truck just a month ago.

Old? The Humvees are not old. They are just mature that's all lol. I drove many cars with powerglide 2 speeds back in the day and we got around just fine.

Only issue with all black is you have zero contrast with black on black on black. Makes the truck look less finished IMHO but still nice. Keep up updated.
