So how does Eastern block stuff compare to ours of similar vintage?
You know, you always hear people say stuff like Russian stuff is simple, designed to be fixed with hammers but you also hear everyone and their brother (who've never driven one) say that Porsche 930's will immediately change...
I need a button for the parking brake handle. There's a threaded rod, looks to be a 1/4" course thread. The button screws on to the top of that and you push down on it with your thumb when you want to release the brake. All this one has is a nut. I called Gary Hebding, who is the king of...
I have a friend with a pretty basic deuce (no winch, no dropside, ND tires, etc.) and he likes 24087 and I keep sending him pictures of this truck saying "You could be this cool!"
So far, it had not moved him to action :(
It's some kind of WWII Dodge WC (Weapons Carrier) but they didn't build any closed cab crewcabs to my knowledge. They did build command cars but they were open cab.
I think 16535 is what I found, along with another number. Apparently they're the same 3/4" bore and one has a 7/16" brake line and one has a 3/8". Gonna' order one tomorrow.
Also, this is supposed to be good but I wonder how up to date it is...
I understand why many collectors of special interest vehicles (be they a '65 Mustang or a military vehicle) "put them to bed" in the winter.
In places up North, where winters are more severe, there is more chance of traffic accidents and corrosion is an issue, both in terms of anti-snow and...
Is there an M38 / M38A1 civyy cross reference sheet out there on the web like the excellent one we have for the deuce? I have a bunch of customers with Jeeps and I'd like to be able to buy stuff like wheel cylinders from Napa when possible.
And although I'm looking for an overall sheet with...
When I got my M44A3 drivers seat, I removed the passenger bench seat and I moved my stock spring ride seat over the passenger side. One day I took somebody for a ride in the truck and I noticed he kept fumbling around and holding on to the door. I just figured he had a physical condition and...
Ok, a bunch of stuff here, some of which Gimpy has covered.
A. When a vehicle is equipped with a spring ride, there is an inverted "U" shaped leg that bolts to the inner side of the bench to support it. Looks like Dave @ Eastern hooked you up.
B. There are different springers for the M939...
One of the oldest M35 videos on Youtube is a Deuce pulling a tracked Land Rover up a hill. One of the comments hits the nail on the head:
"The good old deuce and a half. Best da*med truck in the world"
There was an M-series MWO kit that allowed you to add turn signals to an early M-series vehicle that wasn't originally equipped with them. Other than the wire lengths and whether the kit had/has Douglas or Packard connectors, it would fit any vehicle (Jeep, M44 series, etc.).
Look at these...
So everyone knows the repro 24V coils for the waterproof distributors suck. Very bad reputation. To the point that people are starting to look for good originals when theirs dies.
Apparently the distributor caps are the same way. I have a customer's M38 right now and he has 2 new Newstar...
I am going to be Derrick Downer today.
I have a fair amount of experience with this. I've had a GPW, 4 M38A1s and I have customers with M38 and M38A1 models which I have done extensive work on.
On one hand, that Jeep looks pretty good. It has the rear seat, top bows, etc. Like all of them...
Do you have any of the part #s you used? Mouser's site shows that they have about 625,000 military connectors, encompassing 26,000+ pages. I'm not sure how to filter down to the the common styles like you used.
Once the rally became a "thing" (2009 ish), our overriding thought was always to make it something that everyone could enjoy.
If all you want to do is sell stuff, we've tried to encourage that by intentionally never charging for vendor spaces. Wanna' bring a 53' tractor trailer? You'll have...
I believe they are 2/0 from the factory. They are thicker than traditional civilian 2/0 because the sheath is really, really thick. When I re-batteried mine with civvy batteries, I feel pretty confident the factory cables said 2/0. I replaced them with civvy 2/0 welding cable without issue...
To be honest, I have not considered this avenue. AM General is extremely cold to collectors-they don't even want the govt. to surplus the vehicles they make. The govt. surplusses AMG vehicles over their objections. So I'd be willing to call them, but I can nearly guarantee they'll tell me to...
You know, I've never really considered this aspect of the rally. Because I'm so close to it, I think maybe sometimes I see it in a different way than participants.
So, when we started, it was a cookout in my backyard. No swap meet, just come hang out, talk army trucks. Second year, or the...
