The opening is offset. It's not centered. I learned that the hard way when installing lights into the bumper. So, when it's flipped upside down, the offsets are on the opposite side. If you've never paid attention to the front bumper, you might have missed it.

I would be concerned that if there's enough torsional flex, the side walls would actually come in contact and either prevent movement, or bend/break. It looks like a good idea, though, and to be honest I'd love the CAD file to run to a shop to see if they could cut it. :D
