A lot of people don't get the bit about it being the hitch that is the weak link when towing, not the truck. That 1009 picture sums it up though.
I agree with the comments about the 1009 not being a great tow vehicle for heavier trailers anyway, because they just plain get squirrely at times...
Hey, I know that scruffy little mule!
Glad you came up with a workable fan solution, for the near term at least.
I also made it home safely, it's a long slow trip driving through hilly terrain in an M185. :)
For those who don't know, mkcoen is a dutch oven master. He not only did the...
I really like that shelter on the 353, looks "right". Any details on how you mated them up?
I haven't forgotten the SPAM data plate pictures for you, just haven't gotten over to the property where I keep it. :D
Cheers
I own both types of shelter. An S-788 is quite a bit larger physically than an S-250. If I recall the numbers correctly, the S-250 is 49" side to side across the narrowest part of the base, the S-788 is in excess of 50". I'll go throw a tape on mine and get that exact measurement "between the...
Glad to be of some help. :) Looking forward to seeing your progress.
Try that brush on glue too, you'll like it. It is great for doing long seams like the sides of the shelter, etc.
I use a toenail clipper to cut parts off the sprue (that tree thingy they come on). That way you never...
The military used/uses loads of off-the-shelf civilian lowboys. They won't have a military designation, and many don't have any military plates/tags at all, just the manufacturers plate.
That is a nice trailer! Winch under the front deck?
Cheers
And stay away from tube cement!! There are no viable uses for that stuff!
There are a lot of really good, and accurately coloured, model paints available now. I grew up using Humbrol enamels and paint brushes, but old dogs can learn new tricks, and the modern acrylics are really great...
I always suggest shop local first, even if it costs a bit more. I liked Testors liquid cement for big joints, and Tenax-7r for most everything else. I think Tenax may have been discontinued, so here is where your hobby shop can help, by suggesting a modern alternative.
Tenax, and whatever...
Here is some campaigning - Will someone PLEASE cast a vote for Mamabear? :jumpin:
I hate to see any vehicle up there with no votes at all, and I can't vote again, so....
Cheers
For diecasts, I still have most of my old Dinky military series, Corgies, etc. from when I was a kid (I grew up in the 60's-70's on the other side of the Atlantic). I have added a few more later ones.
For plastic, I have as much of my own vehicles, and a number of other club members vehicles...
The 931 has a standard 2" plate on it. It will hook to civilian trailers. The 931 generates enough air to run the brakes on the trailer.
On one of my 931s, I replaced the military two-axis tilt 5th wheel with a Fontaine slider off a civilian truck. The frame width is the same between the...
They are cute, and quite zippy from my understanding. And it would fit in the bed of your 1078. :-P
I want the Boxer behind it in the first picture!
Cheers
I'm a fan of covering things with store bought tarps. I'd rather have the sun eat them up than the original military stuff.
Many years ago, when I got into this hobby, replacing the vinyl covers was no problem, they were plentiful and cheap.
And you could buy them brand new from GMA...
