Let me tell you about the fuses in a CUCV. They may look good and still be bad. May I recommend that you clean the connections on all the fuse box connections. I fine sanding or a points file work. Blow that area out good and check all you grounds. The ground above the E Brake lever is key to...
I have a new patient in my operating area to work on. A customer had his M1028 shipped here with a no start condition. It was dropped off from a roll back and it will not start. Glow plugs are working in stock form and fuel is up to filter, injection pump and still no start. I was told it would...
This is the current up to date photo of my CUCV assembly building. I am 1/2 way there and getting there slowly. I could have quickly splashed 50 gallons of red from the paint sprayer but I crawled and examined ever nook and cranny as I went. I painted everything with a 3" brush. I always say if...
I have used both and never noticed the difference. If the engine is maintained they are both equal. I would agree with the cost cutting and lightning of weight. I don't think one is better than the other. Those old engines are crude by modern standards. But very reliable when kept stock and...
I have 4 M1010 bodies in my field. I always thought they weighed about 1 ton. I lifted them with a wrecker. I want them gone along with an S280 shelter. Down sizing and cleaning up day by day.
I used a gear reduction starter, since they put less strain on the block.
Please explain how a gear reduction starter puts less strain on the block. I am anxious to hear this. Where would the strain be transformed to? Just asking. Reminds me of which weighs more a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers.
Tach alert. I think yo need a diesel tach in that cluster. A 10 grand tach is a bit high for a diesel. But after all that work I would be sure to have a normal operating glow plug system. It would add more lights an compliment the fine work yo have done.
Be fair and keep in mind it is in Pennsylvania exit 90 in Pennsylvania. I am not greedy with them but I don't want to give them away. They have been in my dry bran in crates for over 20 years so you are getting a good dry differential.
And just for the record. A C Delco 13G are the stock glow plugs. They have been working for me over 25 years. Never have many issues and replace 1 or 2 glow plugs every once in a while. Get the hard starting issue addressed and glow plug issues disappear. There is a lot more to an easy normal...
Do you still have the large ground cable located on the right rear cylinder head. That light wire seems like it is pulling all the amps and providing the ground. Not good. I tend to add a few grounds. Frame to engine and engine to body. I use heavy cable and attach it to holes that exist and use...
I can't truthfully answer that. But I had one that the centrifugal locking mechanism was missing and the rear worked perfect. I never found it in the housing or the gear oil. It just wasn't there. It had all the other parts but the spinner. So that is about all I know. I left it like that...
Do yourself a favor. Replace the injection pump and the lift pump. It costs less than $500. and makes the difference between night and day. I do it first thing every time I have a poor running CUCV. I'm ready for the flak...
OK. You could have a shimming issue with the starter or a starter stuck out in the ring gear. I would loosen the starter bolt's and see if the starter retracts. Without seeing it, it's a crap shoot. Good Luck. Disconnect the batteries before doing any starter work.
The under dash relay is stuck. It needs replaced. Often a result of ecssevive cranking with low amperage batteries. Get a new relay that is compatible and fix the hard start condition, get
So........ what happened to the engine swap vehicle?
Lets just say after further looking and doing my research the engine swap vehicle was not worthy of my time and others money. I can't polish a turd. The owner and I met up Friday night we had a very long conversation and I discovered that the...
