    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

I was off to an early start this morning. I struggled to get that steering box up in place by myself but I done it. I used new 7/16" bolts and left the spacers in place. I torqued them to 75 lb lbs. And I used RED lock tight on the bolts. I never think this will be coming off again. The whole...

Gen 1 Light & heater control

That is the diode in the alternator. I had this issue fixed at the alternator shop. He installed a relay somewhere in that wire for the blower switch. I will ask him. At the same time he set up the alternators so they charged without the idoit lights operational. It was a plow truck and I had a...

    LED Light Idiot Check

After 60 years I am discolored also and my light bulbs are not as bright as they used to be. I don't think different bulbs will make more or less heat. 194 bulbs melt the park light sockets after this amount of time. The plastic and rubber dries and the melting begins. Also poor contacts will...

    Gen1 overcharge

I have worked on CUCV's over 30 years and other vehicles all my life. I have repaired many issues in the CUCV charging system. The Starter relay has nothing to do with the charging system. (just to eliminate that) I can replace every part on the truck but do not know and understand every part...

    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

Waiting for the replacement steering box to arrive at Autozone. I do not blame Autozone for the failure. I blame poor maintenance and lazy maintenance staff. After seeing the dry ball joints and seized u joints it is no wonder the bolts broke on the frame. The box was doing it's job. And when I...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I was a bit weary also. I never put an injection pump on either side of the line. I always aligned it on the line to line. I did this install line to line and thought it smoked and burnt my eyes in my shop. I called Diesel Care and spoke with them. They said the 1/8" towards drivers side. I am...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

OK after loosening the 3 flange nuts I was able to use a small pry bar and adjust the injection pump 1/8" toward the drivers side. the smoke ceased and the engine smoothed out more. Perfect. I tightened the bolts and took it for a ride. Now was the time to make a visit to the auto parts store...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I seen guys in videos beating on the injection pump flange with a punch and large hammer. I am not going to do that. I think loosening the 3 flange bolts and a strap wrench should gently be able to turn it 1/8". I will ask my Wife to tighten the top bolt and I will do the turning. Report back...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

OK so survey says to move the injection pump line 1/8" towards drivers side and go from there. It sounds great and easy enough to me. I will report back later. No one ever answers my legitimate questions here. if I would want to do a lift kit, electrical bypass or and axle swap everyone has...

    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

After doing all the front end parts replacement on the m1009 the steering box bolts will not get tight. it seems the bolts have stripped the threads out of 3 of the holes. I remembered that it was an Autozone box. Warranted. I will have a replacement tomorrow...

What tires are yall running on your CUCVs?

Goodyear Duratrac and Goodyear MTR. Love both of them and they hold up well. I use my CUCV's hard on and off road. Mud, snow and ice. Never checked mileage but they are great all around tires. I think if the Goodyear MTR was made in 1984 that would have been the tire they put on the M1009's and...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I have the truck running now. I am in tricky territory for me. I time my CUCV line to line. I have this one on line and it seems like it smokes a bit more than it should. I will take it and get it timed if needed bit before I do that I want to ask which way do I crank it from the front of the...

    M1008 Getting air under load

When was the injection pump last rebuilt. I just put 1 on yesterday. It is $315. that was well spent. It is fairly easy and a bit time consuming. How about some pictures.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Even the best plans have a few hiccups. I always say. "Plan the work. Work the plan" I never take into account others misfortunes and needs that come along and throw a wrench into the works. All ended well this far. The injection pump is installed and the system is ready. As I started the day...
