Just stick with the DOT5 fluid. It isn't like you need to change the fluid every 5K miles. Do the brake system right the first time and it will last another 30 years. I doubt you will have it in 35 years. I always stuck to the DOT5 and never had any issues. Changing to DOT3 not worth the effort...
Going forward I am going to have documentation of all work performed outside of my shop on the vehicles I am rebuilding. I was given the alignment paper and it shows vehicle complete VIN, mileage and date alignment was performed. It also documents before and after alignment measurements. No...
Grind it off and throw it away. Sometimes guys butchered the vehicles putting them chains in. Worst one I ever seen was bolted and welded thru the floor and torn out of the sheet metal a half dozen times. Then welded to the front seat bolt and seat bracket. Burnt the front seat cushion. But it...
I picked up the M1009 at the alignment shop last night. I had it Pennsylvania Safety Inspected and 4 wheel alignment for safety reasons and drivability. My Wife drove it and when we stopped for diesel fuel she said you can drive it. She is not used to driving older vehicles. That steering is...
I have the parts you need. Just give me a PM. I can get that gear from a parts transfer case. And the support I have that. I probably have every part you need and I am winding down operations here and only have 2 M1009's to complete till I hang up and liquidate all my CUCV parts. Send me a...
I have been working hard at getting the Voodoo M1009 back together. I have managed to complete the front axle and all steering components. What socket do you use on this nut? And all new Warn lock outs
Very nice. A little TLC and you will have a nice unit. Parts are available. Shipping is the biggest expense. I hope you can find stuff locally. I have nice back seats but am on the east coast. Good Luck. Be Safe.
There should be no pressure in that transfer case. and it should not be full enough that it leaks when the hubs are not engaged. In a pinch use a small rubber ball and duct tape it over the hole. Not sure why the hole is leaking so badly. Sounds like the seal between the transmission and...
Read this thread. Take the body off the frame. And Never, Never sand blast any components while they are attached to the truck in any way. You will be sorry. So my answer is remove the body from the truck. Powder blast but SAND. No it will blow a rusty M1009 to pieces and you will have sand in...
And then just like that the barn was empty. I made my rounds today in the M1009. I went to the Chevrolet dealership and visited a few of my friends. I have a few more weeks and I will be filling the garage with another project. I dropped the M1009 off at the alignment shop. Driving a CUCV again...
FYI. You can use the old direct drive as a support bracket on the 28MT. Just install it on the block loose. Rock it back and forth over the support stud on the starter. Drill a 1/4" hole on the center of the flange/mark. And cut off the remaining lower hole and bracket. twice as strong as the...
This is a show of my work on the M1009 Plow truck and also a helpful hint to get looking at the DOT5 brake fluid that is in your CUCV. Your brakes may work fine and everything seems to be hunky dory with the brake system. But inside the wheel cylinders, calipers and master cylinder a murky slimy...
Exactly why I never liked the starter relay modification. Too many open positive connections in an entirely negatively surrounded steel environment. I seen a CUCV truck that a quarter burnt a hole in the dash when in slipped down under the dash and contacted a homemade relay. Melted a lot of...
OK. Time to start looking into getting Little Red into the center bay. First I must unload the cargo area and unstack the wood I have stored on the floor under the M1009. I do not like wasted space. Storing things inside and under it are always a plus. do have a few things stored on top of it...
I may be wrong but a factory dually axle backing plate to backing plate is narrower than a factory single rear wheel axle. Bend your own they are very easy to form. Good Luck.
