I received an email asking about my M1009 Mule build. Someone couldn't find it and wanted to do something similar. When I get done with my current build I am taking an M1009 to a local body shop and having them cut the entire roof from it. I have all the parts from a 1974 K5 Blazer that was...
I would check for grounds on the radiator support to the headlamps. Make sure they are clean and not pulling ground from other areas. Bad grounds can do weird things. Thoroughly check and clean the fuel tank sending unit ground located on the left rear frame rail behind the rear wheel on the to...
The rod can only go in the hole. If you push it up with grease on it and it stays you got it in the hole. I use Permatex The Right Stuff. There is nothing in the fuel pump area that is critical tolerance. It is just an old diaphragm pump. And as long as the area is clean and not gouged the...
You must use a grinder and grind thru the apron skin from the under hood side. Do this after you remove it. The reinforcements are spot welded in place. The right inner fender is the only one that has it. Nothing special about the left apron. Good Luck.
I do the entire pump job from the top after I remove the left alternator. I remove the push rod cover and replace that gasket. Some wheel bearing grease on the push rod and it stays up in place. Make sure you get the right pump the first time. I do go under at the last moment and tighten the 2...
Passengers side seat has its normal broken mechanism cover. I was fortunate to have an original replacement. The passengers seat is all original and is a bit thin at the stitching in the seat cushion. It cleaned up well. I also located a decent set of seatbelts. About as decent as you can get on...
I noticed that the rear axle vent was not on the truck. The axle was capped. I measure a new piece of 5/16" hose and installed a new line with a clean vent. That was easy. After that I rolled around on the creeper double and triple checking every bolt I could touch. I checked the fluids in the...
Special oil pressure sending unit socket. You can get it off with a similar sized deep socket. But yes they make a socket to fit the sending units. I have a Snap-On one. you can buy a HF one real cheap. I have mine 35 years and used it less then a dozen times. Good Luck. Be Safe.
I was looking at the fine bodywork on the M1028. Someone was real handy with the aluminum flashing. I also made a trailer saddle out of a rusty spring mount from an M1031 I scrapped years ago. It is nice to keep the trailer hitch from digging and setting in mud when not in use. I had one for 25...
I must also say the NEW stock springs gave the M1009 a much needed ride height. I remember when they were new they sat high like this. After 30+ years the old leaf springs are fatigued. Happy with the end results. I have a set of new leaf spring for an M1008 laying out in the field. The 4 leaf...
Today I made great progress. I went and picked up my new tires and installed them on my M1009. Huge improvement in appearance. The mirrors have been painted at a remote location in a heated garage. I was able to back the M1009 out in the driveway and I washed it. Next I want to get scrubbing the...
If this were my engine I would definitely take the engine block and crankshaft to a competent machine shop and eliminate the guess work. Engine bearings are not something that should be guessed at. What is the reason that you are looking at connecting rod bearings? And what about wrist pins and...
Please get the correct brake lining for the drums you have on the M1009. I would hate to see anyone get hurt / killed and find out an investigation revealed that the incorrect brake shoes where installed on the vehicle. Liability and for the $30. brake shoes and an hours labor the incorrect...
Today was one of them uneventful days at the shop. I had an S10 in for leaking fuel lines. It was my Son's truck. We removed the bed and everything was going well until we reached the fuel lines. It was an open the wallet and spend all the cash repair or just replace what was broken. Leaking in...
Well your post helped me out. I have a brand new tachometer like that in my stash. Don't know if I will ever use it but I have it. So I got that going for me. Does a HMMWV have a cable driven speedometer and are the HMMWV gauges all weather resistant?
Zeus51. When I was younger I had a friend that had a Jeep CJ7 with a 401 in it. He called it 16 gauge. It had 16 gauges in it. It was very cool looking but a mechanical nightmare. I remember it had gauges for both axles ,transfer case, fuel pressure, pyrometers, tilt gauge, every gauge...
I think (I know) they are pipe thread. That will be different. plumbing fittings work as well as brass fittings. Hardware store items. Just take the plug and match it up. Ace the friendly Hardware Place. I always use smaller local businesses instead of big clueless box stores. Be Safe Good Luck.
12.6 volts
Fully charged automotive batteries should measure at 12.6 volts or above. When the engine is running, this measurement should be 13.7 to 14.7 volts. If you don't have a multimeter to tell you the voltage of your battery, you can do a test of your electrical system by starting the car...
