:funny: Now I'm trying to imagine being stuck next to an M939 at a traffic light that's pouring the bass like most compact cars owned by <20 year olds. rofl
Thanks! Yeah I only didn't buy it because of lack of money/space (If I'd gotten my dad to go in with me on it as a "project", him being a vintage car enthusiast, and we'd ended up with the 6 acres it looked like we might be living on, I would have snapped it right up). All it needed was tires...
Is it drivable? Could always drive it back, though a "recovery" trip with an unknown truck can be hit or miss.
Nevertheless, congratulations!!! I almost bought a '68 M35A2 as my first vehicle and daily driver, as an 18 year old college student.
Sounds like a crazy trip! I assume it was uneventful?
Maybe I'm crazy, but that's my idea of a pleasurable trip actually, I'd love to drive across the United States in an M939 series 5 ton one of these days. (probably recovering one I just acquired).
Your remark about scraping the inside of the windshield made me laugh. I had my first experience driving a stick shift in an M49 fuel tanker Deuce, (well, let me rephrase that, trying to pop-start said M49 by having someone else tow me around with a material handler) and I learned that empty...
Interesting thread! I've thought about putting some sort of a stereo in my 5 ton once I get one. Not a subwoofer type guy but I'm more of the quadraphonic sound type I guess.
Yeah, the Fairbanks winters are going to suck regardless LOL. Some improvements would definitely be necessary if I were to embark on such a crazy venture. I've read plenty of stories high school and college students daily driving Deuces and 5 tons but never an M37, which is why I...
Good to know about the completely manual steering, though I think I could live with that. It's what creature comforts you're willing to live without I suppose.
OK, maybe I should have worded my original post better: It looked like I might have the 200 mile round trip every weekend, but since then that didn't happen (in a way, I'm thankful!). So at this point it would probably me more around-town-ish driving, since I think I want to get some housing...
OK, so here's the deal/backstory:
-I've been infected with the "Green Iron Disease" for about 20-ish months now. You know how that goes, it can strike at any time without warning and the incubation period is extremely short!
-In December of 2014 I got "hooked" and promptly had a brilliant...
I was 17 when I joined, 18 now.
Another poll idea: (Maybe this has been covered already but in case it hasn't): How old were you when you acquired your first MV? I know a member here who got his M923A1 as a 14 year old high school freshman. (Still has it 5 years later).
