Driving boot is my normal footwear. I have to get out of the walking boot as it's about 5.5" wide and won't fit between accelerator pedal and brake pedal.
Well it looks like I'm not going to be able to take my truck this trip. Thanks to not being able to walk and chew gum at the same time I'm stuck in a walking boot for the next couple of weeks and there's no way to drive with it on. At this point looks like I'll be co-driver (well passenger)...
Mic put me down for this. The contingency is if I'm able to drive by then. Seeing the Ortho in the morning and I'll have to be out of the walking boot before I switch to a driving boot.
Fine indeed! I'm jealous of your engineering abilities and hanger machine shop. I have to make due with a friend who gives McGyver a run for his money.
I wound up taking a Primitive Engineering class on building Slow Sand Water Filters so didn't make it. It didn't sound like anyone was going to make it so figured I'd hold out until Spring.
In all likelihood it will. I'll have to see what the followup with the Ortho says but worse case scenarii is I ride with TexAndy and leave the LMTV at home. The trip goes on just uncertain if I'll be able to drive.

I boogered up my ankle yesterday so am willing to take a few sympathy votes as well :)
Tom,
Prayers for your wife's speedy recovery. The Goat is important but no where near as important as the wife and grandkids. And if you get finished then what would you have to do?
I do have a cane I use mostly for balance but, amazingly, it works good in this situation too. Still I have to make sure the Chili Verde gets done right.
We actually have a nurse coming over for supper (which I'm hobbling around trying to cook - testing different Dutch Oven recipes for our Big Bend trip). She said to elevate until she got here and I said I can't do hand stands while cooking so it'll need to wait for a bit. It's my right ankle...
Well had another mechanical failure of sorts just not on the truck. I took a tumble coming off the edge of the driveway about an hour ago. I'm hoping it's only an ankle sprain but I can't walk on it and it's swollen up about the size of a softball. I'm guessing there's no climbing in or out...
Now that they've been in service over a decade it'd be interesting to see what the FD thinks of these trucks now and how they've held up. Of course they were new at the time and hadn't been abused by the military so they might have had fewer issues than we're seeing in the surplus trucks.
Check fan tightness every time the cab is tilted. If its loose make sure its just the bolts (add locktight) and not the aluminum fan hub disintegrating.
