    MEP 804A lug nut size?

Just won this 804A genny on a 2.5tdual wheel trailer. Picking it up Wed with a car trailer but will have to pull the outside duals to get it between the fenders of the car trailer. Anyone know off hand, what the socket size for the lug nuts? Thanks.

    Wrecker vise differences, Anchor/Wilton

Just for clarity, I'm adding this pic - .. and yes, top right ANCHOR hole (in this pic) will need a packing shim between vise plate and bumper brace bracket (which was also burnt on it's edge for the inservice ANCHOR replacement and now repaired). This will be similar to the rear hole of...

    Wrecker vise differences, Anchor/Wilton

Whilst reinstalling the straightened bumper, I decided to adjust the position of the vise, on it's plate as one of the holes had been drilled through the edge of the bumper! It's an Anchor vise, 3 mounting lugs vs the 4 lugs of the original (??) Wilton. Looks like one of the upgrade hole was...

    Bumper Woes.

Totally agree on flimsey. But 36,000 lbs vs solid tree etc., not difficult to see how they get buggered up. So, fixed some ugly and oversized holes while I was at it... Welded ugly hole. Used a 1" aluminium backing plate. Smooth n prime. I tend to use Self Etching Primer mostly. Marked...

    Bumper Woes.

Yes, this mod (jerry can stowage) was done inservice by the recovery mechanics in the Australian army (ADF), incase anyone wondered why I didn't post this in the '5 ton Hot rodding' forum...

    Bumper Woes.

I also welded up and redrilled some of the bolt holes that had been gouged out, badly repaired or were otherwise oversize for the required bolt. Next step will be temp reinstall, so that I can finish the fab of the stowage tray for two water jerry cans, that was used by some units. Tray to...

    Bumper Woes.

So... I decided to tackle the bent, twisted, cracked and much repaired (none too well) front bumper. First, using 20 ton bottle jacks, under the rear bogey, press the major bends out...... Bumper resting on two 4x4s placed equidistant from the apex of the bend I'm trying to straighten...

    Front winch pic needed!!!

So I got out the cardboard n tape... Appears that only one side of the hinge was used, not the full width. Piece in background will be used. Underside showing how small connection will be. (Didn't want to make full piece for male side of hinge, requiring new, riveted pin). Also detent holes...

    Front winch pic needed!!!

US6x4, thanks - I think that and the location requirement for holding the clutch lever in it's detent position (when I get a new ball bearing - no comment!) will be all I need. Thanks.

    Problem with upgraded towbar.

All sorted. Didn't have to remove too much. Single person operation. Just need to add clasp to secure leg ends.

    Problem with upgraded towbar.

Well - that would be a 'get you by', but seeing as I am recreating an actual inservice mod'd wrecker - it's gotta be what it's gotta be. Stowage of seperate halves would be a suitable and real world option in any other instance, that's how I did the 'mother of all towbars' (M88), I fitted to the...

    Problem with upgraded towbar.

Before grinding, the legs didn't meet by about 12-13", probably 8-10 degrees. Going to try to get them to meet with the minimum of the collar being removed - hence the blue marker and constant reassembly to create witness marks for further grinding. Will have to add a little to allow for...

    Problem with upgraded towbar.

So, installing towbar on side of M816, I found that the inservice welded collars mod, stops the two legs closing for stowage.. Anyone else have this situation? Gonna have to 'caress' the collars a little.

    R.I.P.--73M819--Ron Harris

He was a great guy, helped many as admin said above. changed my avatar the moment I heard about his passing. There's plenty to read in his posting on here. He lived for the 'green crap' (my wifes description of my sickness), anything wreckers, lifting, rigging, modifying but always towards...

    Flags on LMTV procedure

Multiple of the same (USA) or different? Personally, I think a correctly placed, single US flag looks more poinient/respectful, more than one look like a carnival float, not a military vehicle. If you are doing an all services display of flags, as mentioned before, the US flag "should" be...

    Flags on LMTV procedure

Funny..... I have driven in quite a few parades and I have noticed that I am always the only one that sticks to "The Flag Code"... ironically, I am a damn foreigner!
