Welcome to the sickness. Do some digging in the forums, over the years there have been a dirth of wrecker and 5 ton specific threads on operation, use, modification..... hrs of reading!
as a "spectator", I'd agree but for people on this forum, who collect/restore/show military vehicles, want to meet with like minded souls, my vote, from experience is the Friday - for a full day. Sat is good, but often, even with good weather, exhibitors/vendors start to leave by lunch.
Note to self - Ignore flyer dates of Sat and Sun for next year, show up Thursday, best day is apparently Fri, head home Fri pm or Sat am. (Addmitedly, the weather wasn't very cooperative this weekend!)
Kind of a shame as the future of this hobby depends upon interesting new, younger people that...

Loaded for the car show tomorrow . Had to use the flat rack I made for the M916A1's fifth wheel as the fairgrounds entrance for MV's is too small for the M870A1 trailer.
How have I not commented on this thread before... "Honey, call the chaps in the white coats, I'm going senile!"
Depressed by the pics of the wrecker on the M870 - I was hoping to have room to put my S250 camping shelter on the back of the trailer WITH my 816 on the bed - looks like I'll have to...
Nope, nope, nope... OSHA stuff is not exciting there big fella. I want to see rocket launchers, hydraulic claws, tuckaway half track convertion, secret microwave beams.....
All in all, this worked out really well. There was no uncontrolled crashing down of a cut tree. The roots put up a fight all the way to the ground, never once falling faster than the winch pulled it. Even increasing the resistance at the end when we tried to up root the whole thing - pulling...
Wifey was actually operating winch for the main pull, didn't want to video as close as I wanted the shot!.. but she stopped when back of truck got dragged to the edge fo the bank.
so for future heavier pulls, I am going to somehow add a little ground reaction device.
M984E1 spades. I am...
Lots of snapping of the dried out roots..
... and down she came.
No interferance to barn - really no foundation of any substance to be compromised by roots, hence the settleing!
