Mep 002A and mep 802A comparison

Check out the thread in this forum titled something like "Considering swapping my 002 for an 802". I'd link it, but can't from my phone. It's filled with opinions, and sprinkled with some facts. :) Obviously, being water cooled adds a maintenance item, but that also helps reduce running...

How NOT to unload your MEP-002a!

I've seen enough rusted tanks that were always kept full to know it's smart to prevent now rather than repair later. You can't get a tank full enough to guarantee no condensate ever anyway, or that there will never be contaminated fuel or a leaky valve that leaves it empty for a month before...

How NOT to unload your MEP-002a!

Wow, that tanks looks brand new! DON'T FILL IT! If you plan to keep this genset, and that tank hasn't had diesel in it yet, get yourself a tank liner like RedKote and coat that thing asap. You'll thank yourself in 5 years when you're on here reading about guys with rusted tanks that can't...

Strongly considering selling 002a to put towards 802a at auction.. opinions ?

I'd like to, but an 003 is a heckuva lot cheaper, probably about the same price as an 802 right now. I've also not seen many for sale except the very few GL auctions that get swamped. I've never tried an 803, so I can't tell you if it's over/under powered. I can tell you the 802 I have is...

Strongly considering selling 002a to put towards 802a at auction.. opinions ?

Well my power is out, so the 002 is currently in service. I think if I'm going to settle on a genset, I'm going to get an 003. The 002 is loud as heck, probably because my neighbor and I are the only ones without power, so no one else has a genset on. And, there are no leaves on the tree...

    DN2M, LPW2 and MEP-802a questions

Btw, the canister is a fuel filter, but not water separator, you'll have to add one before the filter. edit: if you copied that cross reference I just posted or it was emailed to you, toss it, I grabbed the wrong list. I misplaced my data for that engine.

    DN2M, LPW2 and MEP-802a questions

I have an MEP-802a with this engine. It will run pretty poorly and drop frequency (down to 40hz) when I load it over 5kw. I think my load came out to 5.5kw when it was losing steam. Unless there's some reason the engine is not able to power through overloading when configured as a mep unit, I...

Strongly considering selling 002a to put towards 802a at auction.. opinions ?

I wouldn't say "hate" for the 80x. They start easy and run quiet, but aside from the sound, I'm not sure they're a better machine. I believe the long run times, that's what most of the mil spec gensets are made for. Drop it at a fob in Afghanistan and run it til the dust kills it. I saw dozens...

    1997 M116A3 trailer

The data plate on the front of the box will say M101Ax, the plate on the drawbar will say M116A3. With that box, it's identified by the military as an M101 cargo trailer, without the box, it's a 116, normally used as a generator trailer. I currently have an m116A3 flatbed that was some kind of...

    1997 M116A3 trailer

I'm surprised no one mentioned it, but that trailer is actually an M101A3 on an M116A3 frame. You'll have better luck selling identified as an M101A3. I've seen them listed for $1500, never saw one actually sell for more than $1000 (but plenty could have). I'd also suggest putting factory wheels...

Strongly considering selling 002a to put towards 802a at auction.. opinions ?

If you're primary objective is noise reduction, I say do it. If you can build a shed around your 002, I'd say keep that. I have both an 002 and an 802, and while the 802 is definitely quieter, I'll probably go with the 002 for any multi-day outage we have. The footprint is not much different...

    M116A3 covers and similar covers

I think I figured this out... It looks like a cover for the LTT generator trailers that were recently released. The contours and dimension, as well as the stand cutouts, all seem to match. Well that settles it. I guess I'll have to pick up an LTT to put under this brand new cover.

May need a pallet hauled from OKC to PA

This may be a long shot, but are any members travelling from the west coast or midwest to the east coast by the end of the month? I'm considering buying a pallet or two of items at OKC from GL, just trying to guesstimate shipping costs through the SS network to set my spending limit...

    4A084 engine info?

I was looking for the same thing, but was never able to find it. However, I did read the section of the TM on timing, and found it very helpful, along with posts on the forum. The TM will list the firing order, too. A problem I ran into was initially timing the magneto incorrectly. I set it...

    MEP-802a power generation?

Mine seems to drop to 40hz and struggle at more than 5kw (that's when the 4500w water heater is on and the well pump kicks on from locked rotor). I don't think I checked the load meter, but I've usually considered the meter to be gravy, not reliable.

    MEP802 short circuit?

sheesh, how the heck do you get the head wet? That thing is pretty well protected. But that would make sense.

    MEP802 short circuit?

Diodes can definitely fail shorted, but they usually fail open. Remove battery power asap, and replace that diode. I don't know if it will solve your problem, but that is probably not designed to do that... There could also be some current limiting device further down the dc circuit allowing...

    MEP802 short circuit?

While not meaning to contradict anyone here, I've powerwashed mine and let it sit out in severe weather running the house and it's still pretty happy. I'm talking exterior, though I'm pretty sure I also hosed out the back of the control board and cavity unintentionally. There was a service...
