Made some last-minute checks for the trip to the UK.
Filled up oil MPM 15W40 for diesel, some extra coolant in the reservoir, checked ATF.
Checked tire pressure, did a 120 mile road trip, no strange noises or vibrations.
Seems the M1028 is ready for the trip.
Still pondering if I should go...
A little harsh? The truck driver heard the noise when i was about 50 metres out.. it felt so wrong..
and it was a little throttle just after passing. later on a few roundabouts no such thing. with or without throttle.
Anyways, thank you for the heads up
Getting ready to go to the last...
I just drove my M1028.
Did some towing and pushing to relocate a dodge knockdown in a yard.
Also noticed my rear tires have some cracks, guess it's because of age.
Meanwhil, when driving, i had to avoid a parked truck.
There was also some vibration in the truck, but don't know where it cames...
Cruised to a US car meet. Talked to some friends, saw a lot of nice cars and cruised home again.
Also went to look at another not OD green toy. Need to scrape some money together..
Thanks, I was getting worried about the flapping.
About the adjustment, you mean the adjustment room for the tension? Than there is a lot of room left in the slots.
To tension the belts, I did have some trouble. It's not easy to keep tension on the belt and tighten the nut at the same time.
No...
Changed the belts on the M1028.
Pulled them off, got to the local parts store, got replacements and put the new ones back on.
After a few times of tightening and test running I believe the tension is good.
The drivers side looks like it's flapping around, but the tension on it is correct.
Old...
I Only have one left, but that is the one with the shelter on top.
That one isn't going anywhere. It is needed for my vacation/trip to the UK.
Still need to paint it camo, I have about 4 weeks to do that :p
Last weekend:
Took the M1028 and M101a2 on a trip.
Sold the M101a2, so delivered that saturday after a 100 mile trip, then, while I was close to the German border, drove another 100 miles to friends in Germany.
Had a BBQ and sleep over, next day visited some local markets. Then I fueled up...
When i first got my M1028 (all stock), I floored the pedal on the highway. Just to try it out, you know, top speed. :driver:
But when I reached 75 mph and it was still pulling, I released the accelerator.
I got kinda scared, both the noise and vibration became too much for comfort.
You'll never...
Well, had a 4x4 evening/night tour a few days back.
Did not see any mud, but plenty of dust.
Did not need to put it in 4x4, except to take some load of the driveline in loose sand.
Towed a GMC CCKW today. Was only for a few miles, because the transfercase of said truck died earlier this week.
Took a little effort to get going, but once rolling, keeping momentum is a piece of cake.
The braking part was a little challenge, because of all the weight and the towbar, but...
Well, checked brake fluid, both cups still halfway full.
Power steering fluid is between full hot and full cold, this is with cold engine.
PS fluid looks, feels and smells like atf, so that is normal, I guess..
Thank you for the explanation.
I did notice my power steering hoses are sweating quite a bit.
Going to check the levels of the steering and brakes tomorrow.
Today, the brake pedal did went from spongy, to firm as usual. Had to use the brakes a lot with the charity run today.
Also got to play...
Why check that, isn't that a completely different system?
Will do tomorrow after work. We had a day off here, kings-day.
Did a charity run with handicapped kids today. Over 50 American cars.
I went to the local season opener car meet. Stopped at the bank for some cash, but no brakes!
Opened up the brake fluid reservoir, both compartments were empty..
Did a quick check if there was any leakage from the wheels, but all was dry..
Also the visible parts of the reservoir and brake lines...
