The oil level has been high in my M816 since I got it. After my first runaway, I decided I had better get rid of the excess oil. I drained out two and a half GALLONS. It is now at mid range on the stick. The oil that came out looked fine, no water or anything else that I could seel Well...
I have a M816 that blows out a lot of black smoke even at idle. Am I getting some oil from somewhere or is it just running that rich? It runs great and is very responsive. However, I have had some problem with it not wanting to idle back down, after being reved, when it's cold.
I just pulled my first 18 wheeler out of the mud. I didn't think it would be that hard to pull out, so I just hooked a chain to it and tried to drive out with it. I was dissapointed when I couldn't budge it.
Plan B: I pulled up and rolled out the cable from the rear winch. It pulled it...
I laid out my tire chains tonight and found that all three of them were either missing a link of had a link loose on one end. The chains are put together with what looks like a big rivet, bent into a "J". I had a couple of extra rivets and an extra link. So, I wondered if there was a way to...
We just got out new winch installed and cable put on it yesterday. You might not think that it is much of an accomplishment, but have you ever tried to wind on a cable without a PTO or drive shaft? We did this with an electric drill.
Haven't tried to pull anyone out of a mud hole yet with...
Can anyone tell me what is on the data plates located on the middle of the level wind of the rear winch and the left-middle rear of the bed of a M816? I would like to replace them but there is not enough left to figure out what they are, and I have been unable to find a picture in any of the...
Where do you check the fluid levels on the front winch of a M816? I know someone asked this not long ago but I never saw it answered and I cannot find it under "search". The worm gear side has a level check plug down towards the bottom but the only plug I can find on the other side is 2/3rds...
I just got pulled over in my "new" M816. It seems that the local police noticed that I didn't yet have any registration numbers. As I climbed down from the cab, I heard the policeman say "oh, its you, that explains it". We talked for about 10 minutes, shook hands, and wished each other a good...
Just had to show off what my new 816 did last night. Sorry about the quality, but that is from a cell phone. Anyway, I went over to another SS members house and pulled his 816 out from in front of his deuce, pulled the deuce out, backed the 816 back down the drive, and then backed the M35 back...
I'm trying to arrange a trucking company to pick up my M816 from Wright-Patterson and I just learned that they only loadout on Mondays and Thursdays. It's hard enough to arrange for a trucker to be there in the specified two week time frame, but when you tell him that he has to be there on a...
I just wanted to thank everyone on SS for being so great to work with. The Vietnan Veterans of America, Chapter 920 in Denton, Texas managed to put together enough money to buy one of the pallets of power steering kits from GL a couple of weeks ago. We were not intending to make money on the...
For all of those who purchased power steering kits from Vietnam Veterans of America: UPS overcharged us by sending the units via UPS Freight instead of regular UPS Ground. We are in the process of filing a claim to have the charges refunded. They have already agreed to refund 60% of the...
What's a "new in the can" motor for a deuce worth? I've found one that is in a sealed can with turbo, starter, alternator, and clutch, built in '92. Any ideas?
We were just given an M105A2. It has the single air line brake system. Both wheels are locked up. We tried rocking the trailer with the deuce, with and without the air hooked up. It's a little hard to pull like this! Does anyone have any ideas?

We had our new deuce in its first parade. It was the Medal of Honor parade in Gainesville, Texas. We had three MOH receiptants riding in the deuce. Quite an honor.
